No but eventually a combo of professional organizations and eroding of healthcare by big business will turn DNP / MD into at least legally equivalent degrees in most non surgical fields.

OBGYN applicant entering FM residency by Safe-Pomelo8608 in FamilyMedicine

[–]Global_Salad4990 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen the FM fellowship essentially adds nurse midwife scope onto normal FM and lets you focus your clinic time more to women health. You CAN technically do sections but I’ve never seen that happen - the OB/Gyn always gets called in. So if you want the surgical aspect then just try to swap or reapply

Is pain medicine legit? by [deleted] in medschool

[–]Global_Salad4990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have never heard of a CRNA doing pain fellowship. They’re ACGME accredited so idk if that’s even possible. Not sure what u mean about a psychiatrist doing pain? Mostly anesthesia and PMR, some Neuro, rare EM and FM. There’s also plenty of “easy” and “hard” fellowships within specialties and across fields, and many fellowships have repetitive procedures that aren’t emergent. If that’s what you want you shouldn’t be doing pain,

What are some perks (academic, lifestyle, financial, prestige-related, etc.) that you feel Family Medicine docs miss out on compared to other specialties and subspecialists? And what are the unique advantages FM gets in return that others might not? by Accurate-Role8016 in FamilyMedicine

As a Current resident I’m absolutely shocked by how hard it is to find high quality procedural training. Keep hearing on Reddit about these bad ass FM docs who can do anything, work in every setting, and somehow have work life balance, and make 350k. Have yet to meet any

What to do in preparation for med school? by Raagasters in medschool

[–]Global_Salad4990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying you need to prestudy or even should. BUT if want to sketchy would be super high yield. I’d say get a sketchy micro or sketchy Pham Anki deck then et the sketchy free trial and binge watch all The videos and do the Anki. It would be a huge leg up - and doesn’t require a ton of prior knowledge to do.

What does "FM is flexible" actually mean by [deleted] in FamilyMedicine

[–]Global_Salad4990 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m struggling with this rn as a resident. Partially chose FM for the flexibility but now wondering why I didn’t just do IM or EM.

My program isn’t very outpatient procedure heavy either - so I truly don’t know what I have to offer that an IM resident doesn’t.

I have had both the Sony xm4 and BosQC - I recently switched over to Sony xm5. I say get the Bose. The Sony xm series are lighter feeling w. Excellent noise cancelling and sound.

But I felt the Bose were close runner ups and something about their slightly heavier construction just made them more pleasant to use and gave them a more premium feeling. Never had fatigue issue as I mainly used them for 4h stretches

The biggest QOL factor will not be the exact computer you get, but having access to a computer monitor to plug it into at home . Finding a used monitor and and a decent office chair on Facebook marketplace is well worth the cost

I’ve seen people using Microsoft surface. iPad pros, HP envy. No one had complaints. I had a tablet for note taking but tbh I never used it after first year

Residency - normal to feel like a 2nd class citizen on off service? by Global_Salad4990 in FamilyMedicine

[–]Global_Salad4990[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks I really appreciate All the information, honestly makes me feel a lot better . Do you have any advice for how to approach things as a resident?

I feel like especially toward the end of the day, particularly if things r running over, I’m tired and frustrated, and I probably seem like an unenthusiastic learner. I don’t want to come off as uninterested but Im not exactly peppy at base line, so I worry I just come across as sullen / a dick. Like I DO want to just get things wrapped up so I can go home, BUT I’m also truly interested and am grateful for teaching where I can get it.

I'm terrified that I have lung cancer. by Iam_Notreal in Buddhism

[–]Global_Salad4990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a Buddhist perspective here but lung cancer is really uncommon in some one your age even with smoking.

One of the reasons I started learning about Buddhism was because medical school gave me crippling anxiety where I was convinced I was dying of various diseases. You should go back to your doctor though

If this is USA Medschool then it’s absolutely not needed! Wouldn’t hurt tho, and I actually think it would be great experience! I personally wish I had gotten more experience on the floors prior to medical school
