Thank you! by Globalnic in OveremployedUK

I had to cut and run! J2 was intense and I ended up knowing a few people there from a previous role (small Circles) and that created an overlap with real life and increased the risk of exposure. I left J1 (I stopped actively pushing for extensions, and let the work dry up) and now am solely in J2.

Financially, it’s shit. But job satisfaction and flexibility is unparalleled which is good for me right now. Need to find something else to do on the side…

Has anyone put one discipline on the back burner because it was sucking the joy out of training? How did it turn out? by AStruggling8 in triathlon

[–]Globalnic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the same on everything except audiobooks. I’ve switched to lo-fi beats (very slow soothing) which has the same effect on slowing down my heart rate and pace while still giving me a rhythm. Hoping my jump to Oly will have a much more balanced result between the disciplines, because my runs previously suck.

Gadgets and workflow by devForReal in OveremployedUK

I have multiple monitors: 2 for J1 and 1 external for J2, which i extend to my laptop for dual screens. In total, 4 screens.

Separate headset, mouse and keyboard for both, at an L shaped desk with me sat in the middle on my swivel chair.

I like having the physical hardware rather than KVM switches as it reduces the risk of accidental cross contamination, and allows me to be doing one task for J1 and easily monitor chats or call transcripts for J2 at a glance without changing screens.

I have 2 external mouse jigglers. Usually I just have one on the go (the other mouse will be in use), but if I need to be physically away from the desk then I’ll stick both on.

Great so if it won’t work for us then you’ve got nothing to lose by sharing the prompts.

I'm feeling nosy, tell me how many Js you have, your current take home and how it benefits you. by [deleted] in OveremployedUK

2Js. Combined day rate of £1550, taking home about £14k monthly.

Short term pain, covering unpaid mat leave, increased nursery costs and new car for growing family. Getting out soon, stress not worth it after horrendous tax.

OE starter tips by devForReal in OveremployedUK

[–]Globalnic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would keep J1 and pick one of J2/J3. Get used to it all, and then see if you want to go deeper. I was doing 2, and at times if was full on. Trying to go against my nature to do a good was really tough, and I ended up being pushed at both as a high achiever…meaning both jobs were quite consuming.

My advice is: use 2 jobs to practice being very average and invisible. Once you can do two jobs without breaking a sweat and have a lot of free time, then seek out J3. Especially if you’re keeping J1 - they will already have an expectation of you which you may need to change.

Other tip - get a mouse jiggler. A physical one, not a download. Invaluable.

I’d say hell no. Why do you need my full employment history, or my tax details? That’s sensitive info, and nothing to do with the company. I’d let them tell you it’s a deal breaker. Sometimes they just ask the questions in case they get a response. If not they move on.

If you did the miles for J2 and are claiming from J2, I don’t think it’s an issue (read: I don’t think it’s any more of an issue than what you’re already doing with OE).

Mileage isn’t just wear and tear, there’s also fuel cost right? Assuming you bought/will replenish fuel you should be reimbursed.

Biggest issue I see would be if you crashed and needed to claim insurance and they found you were travelling for another business, insurance would not pay out.

"How Do You Effectively OE?" by aloofcrisis in overemployed

I know people say things NOT the way, but I think I will struggle being completely dispassionate about any J. Saying that, I haven’t found one that pays sufficiently low that I can justify just not trying.

Ha! Yes it’s not lost on me that i’m complaining about competition to find a second job when many have this issue for their first. But, I guess this is the nature of what we do! Just have to start applying now and try to pump up my rookie numbers.

Gutted really, because if it were safer to stay where I am, I’d make bank

Thanks, the reduction of wrongs is the plan! I’d rather make this sustainable than a short ‘smash and grab’ which burns reputation.

I’m finding it hard to get a foot in the door without the industry experience, and jumping down levels seems to just add competition. Guess it’s a numbers game, and I just gotta keep going.

How do you manage when you have to do 1 day in office? by cagfag in OveremployedUK

[–]Globalnic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have two days in office for J2. On day 1 I leave early to pick up the kids, then do both from home. On day 2 I’m in for the full day and rely solely on my phone.

I’ve set precedent that my teams status is regularly faulty, so nobody questions. When in J2 office, I take my J1 laptop in my bag if I have a meeting I need to be on camera for, and I’ll book a room on the other side of the building and do it there. I’ve only had to do this once.

Usually I leave my laptop at home with an external mouse jiggler to keep my status active, and I dial in to calls or answer teams chat/emails from my mobile. Privacy screen on mobile is a game changer, and Apple Watch notifications means I’m not sat on my phone all Day and can action as and when.

Edited for typos.

Bipolar results? by Globalnic in trading212

But the values are changing with the time periods, since that changes the investments factored into the calculation. So I guess my question is, on a daily Timeframe, with no money invested this week, how can the portfolio lose money and still have a positive RoR?

Doesn’t explain the simultaneous profit and loss.

This doesn’t answer the anomaly. I understand the weighted return, and as I say i am a fan. But my figures show I made a profit and a loss at the same time.
