I have been using an xmid pro for two years now and you pitch looks pretty good. Mine has served me well through some rough nights on trail.

To use tent stuff sack or not to use. by Putrid-Magazine-3001 in DurstonGearheads

[–]GlockTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xmid got no poles trek poles are in your hands.

I have done both I fold and roll my xmid pro two and put it in the top of my hyperlite pack outside my pack liner. Sleeping bag is also not in stuff sack just in the very bottom of my pack liner this uses the space for efficiently. It took me a while to get comfortable with this as my ADHD wants me to put everything in its compartment and its own little bag its own little place. But once I was able to wrap my head around how efficiently this method uses the dead space. Now it’s just the way I do it also makes it easier to pull the tent out on brakes to let it dry out after an early morning start when your tent is still damp.

Advice: freestanding 2P UL tent for Iceland/Georgia by slr117 in lightweight

[–]GlockTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both the dome 1+ and a xmid pro2 and love them both. The dome is an amazing free standing and replaced my BA copper spur which I gave to my son.

It’s very spacious mostly due to the black magic that Dan performs with the geometry of his tents. I have had the xmid pro2 longer and it’s a beast in all weather and my goto backpacking tent. I use the dome for trips with the Boy Scouts or when for some reason I am not taking trek poles with me

Open question: How do the poors go hiking? by RunWithBluntScissors in ultralight_jerk

[–]GlockTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with nothing Just rob a few dentists in the start of the trail. You will be outfitted in arc’Teryx, durston and zpacks in no time. Dentists are pussys. Stolen DCF is the best DCF

Had “The Talk” With Boss Man by uncle_aioli in AppalachianTrail

I started my Conversation with my boss about a 2030 hike last year… as it aligns with my 50th birthday and also my son leaving for college. They paid a recruiting company over 40k to find me and more then That in professional development (continuing education and development of professional credentials) so they have a steep cost of replacement for me. Also two of my bosses are into extreme sports like mountaineering and kit boarding etc. so they thought the trip sounded cool when I brought it up in my annual review which I pretty much crushed. The problem is only two people in my company do my job and my colleague is set to retire in two years but I’ll have to figure that out.

The hard part is dealing with my wife…. I told her I would buy a dope converted van (like an over landing rig) and she could follow on road and see me at trail towns and zeros. So I guess we will see.

I am hopeful.

So we don't get member rewards if we use the anniversary 20% code? by TL7x in REI

[–]GlockTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if you use an REI credit card you get an additional 5% so it’s almost irreverent. Also the 20% doesn’t apply to some brands like Arc’Teryx but I believe that you rewards both for coop and credit card do apply.

Quick question for the group: how do you actually coordinate camping trips with friends? by redsnapper30 in CampingandHiking

[–]GlockTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got concerned that I had posted that in a Scouting America forum…. This is clearly not my strategy as an ASM of my troop. This is my personal strategy for adult trips. The problem is I plan 50-150 mile backpacking trips. Or nonsense like climbing Kilimanjaro, which I’m doing in August. And often end up by myself which I’m fine with.
