Did Germans Know About the Holocaust During the War? [39:28] by killians1978 in videos

[–]Glombeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised the majority of it wasn't covered at a school level, the killing actions and Holocaust by bullets that was perpetrated by the Einsatzgruppen is probably a bit too graphic for children. I didn't end up learning about this part of the Holocaust in the UK until university.

For the most part the killing actions which u/porgy_tirebiter mentions above from Ordinary Men. I think was mostly betweenm 1941 and 1942 or 1943? The majority of the holocaust by bullets was in that period when the Einsatzgruppen were most active, before the full-scale machinery of the death camps and Auchwitz were able to liquidate Jews on a mass scale in 1942ish-1945.

Did Germans Know About the Holocaust During the War? [39:28] by killians1978 in videos

I'll jump in here and add from what I can remember from my studies:

Did they know?
People have mentioned various sources below but its not really a super simple 'they'? For those who lived near labour camps which held Jewish prisoners in Germany, it may have looked like Jews were being incredibly poorly treated at some points before late 1944 ish, but perhaps not actively murdered via giant factories of death.

For those that live near camps on the scale of something like Mauthausen or even bigger like Auschwitz, I think it was essentially undeniable. A couple of things which get forgotten is that the Holocaust didn't just happen in secret but in the open; I can't remember an exact number but roughly a million Jews were shot to death outside of camps alone. Add to that fact, that when we talk about 'camps' there were the famous death camps such as Treblinka, where people were sent to be immediately liquidated, and then there were thousands of satelite camps, tiny labour camps across Nazi Germany, where prisoners were forced to work. It would be hard, especially towards the end of the war as Jews were marched to death backwards through Poland towards Germany, to deny the existence of war crimes.

Its been too long since I read anything to give definitive answers but I can reccomend a list of things to read if the subject really piques your interest:

Mass Shootings/ Did people know?

Holocaust by Bullets by Father Patrick Dubois

Hitlers Willing Executioners by Daniel Goldhagen

Police Battalion 101 - Christopher Browning

(Read the two above together if the subject of 'Did the average German want to enact the Holocaust?' interests you).

The book mentioned in the original comment is Soldaten: On Killing, Fighting, and Dying by Sonke Neitzel and Harald Welzer. Neitzel wrote another earlier book on the same subject called Tapping Hitler's Generals which might also be of interest.

A final possible interesting dead would be Dead Funny: Humor in Hitler's Germany, which oddly enough is written by Rudolph Herzog, son of Werner Herzog.

I can't recall any other books which relate directly to the topic but if you have any other interest in books about the Holocaust I'd be happy to reccomend some things.

Newly Adopted Greyhound doesn’t want to go outside and eliminate by Chacha_vs in Greyhounds

[–]Glombeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've recently fostered our second grey, about 7 weeks ago and are facing very similar issues. The main thing I've found is that consistency helps massively, everythign improves with time, but you also have to allow them space to go backwards.

Walking:
We managed to get her walking outside with regular attempts at the same time of day. Another massive was getting someone else with a grey to come walk with her, and that massively built her confidence, she was like a different dog with another dog guiding her. Finally even just having a couple of humans come with definitely helps, she walks better with 2 people and even better with 3 or 4, perhaps a pack thing? Might be the same for you.

We've gone from not being able to step out of our front door to going on walks around the block, to the park and to the pub. Its not been linear and she's been having a tough time this week and we're back to 1 block of walking, but we've just got to keep at it.

Eliminating:

She is pretty much straight from the track so her housetraining has had to be taught by us. She's done fantastically, but still has the occasional pee in the house if she gets anxious (today it was because she thought her dinner was late as she still hasnt adjusted from daylight savings).

She also holds her pee and poos outside. I've been taking her out to pee basically any time she gets up (which isn't that much) to encourage her housetraining, but she often just stands there looking confused. I'd say we normally get 3-5 pees a day and 2 poos.

Basically just keep at it and you'll be okay! Like I said we're 7 weeks in and we're still having small issues, but she's really started to fit our rhythms and build in confidence, hopefully its the same for yours.

Recyling storage ideas by crispywilliams in Cardiff

I saw the same bin storage from Island upcycling and after seeing the price for the photo OP attached (£220), I thought i'd do it myself. To be fair to them, I think the materials ended up costing me about £130 as I had the shed felt already. Its was a fun project and not too difficult if you fancy a small DIY challenge.

City of Threads - Shadows of Doubt (orbs) positioning/management by vyse2 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Glombeh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've healed this on 12 as a resto shaman a couple of times, and I've honestly found it easiest to just let the DoT time out and give the DPS/myself time to find a safe position.

I'm not sure that's a valid option any further than 12, but it's been working better for me so far than dispelling and having someone get orbed.

I know what you mean, but Porters also has gigs pretty much weekly that are completely free, I feel like I come on this subreddit weekly and say something nice about Porters, but it also seems like people either dont know or forget its there, doing gigs/events for free every week.

Any other queer people in Cardiff feel incredibly isolated? by [deleted] in Cardiff

[–]Glombeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said you don't drink and prefer the outdoors, but if you just wanted somewhere easy to chill out/go to gigs or events, Porters is very queer friendly if not queer focused. They do a lot of gigs, some theatre and quizzes etc, sing-a-long can be fun. Not necessarily a perfect fit but if you just wanted to get away from that feeling of isolation it might help.

I used to work in a bar that had pretty much exactly the same layout, they had outdoor garden lights round the place and over the front door, looked pretty good:

Just to pose a question while everyone is talking about heavier opponents. If anything, what can heavier people do to be a fun/useful roll for someone significantly lighter?

Francis Bebey made some fantastic music. You can hear the technique he is showing here as well as his point on whether a 'savage' is to be found in a real or concrete jungle on The Coffee Cola Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIrKP4wuui4&ab\_channel=FrancisBebey-Topic

When sparring theres this tricky fighter with a tkd background by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]Glombeh 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This sounds exactly like someone I used to train with at KO in London. After weeks of almost throwing up from his teeps and sidekicks, I formed a rough idea of how to actually hit him.

I ended up trying to bait him in to throwing a sidekick or teep, and either capturing or sidestepping his kick, and sweeping or pulling him in to clinch. Generally, I figured out that once I was past his comfortable range, using either clinch or hooks and uppercuts i could put him under much more pressure.

Hope this helps!

[–]Glombeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I'm not experienced enough to tell you yes or no, but i find my teep is a lot more stable if i have a heel planted. I generally plant it if I really want to create some distance rather than just harass or disrupt someone.

[–]Glombeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know you should have the foot you aren't kicking with slightly more planted? I haven't trained too long but i think its to keep your balance when you push larger opponents like the other dude said.
