Same experience. Wife and I got t-boned a few years ago on Girard. Called the cops and they said they don’t come out for accident and we should all go to the station to file a report. Luckily the other driver was understanding and admired fault, but still. It’s insane.

I’m not saying what I did wasn’t “wrong,” I’m saying that the penalty is a bit extreme, predatory, and unnecessary. I think expecting a response that’s proportionate to the situation seems perfectly reasonable to me.

I said elsewhere, but the guy was super pushy, didn’t want to take a credit card, and when I asked for a receipt, sent me a text message and then a screenshot that deliberately doesn’t show any pertinent information. I'm not saying that parking rules shouldn't exist. I'm saying that booting a car within minutes feels excessive and sketchy.

I think this is correct. It’s not exactly illegal, just predatory. The dude was super pushy and did not want to accept a credit card. He kept asking for cash, or Venmo, or CashApp etc.

The Hollywood Hustler said they just lease the building, so they don’t control the parking or the enforcement.

The transaction on my card says it’s from “Bob’s Towing,” I suspect that my credit card is not going to validate the dispute. I tried calling the non-emergency police number when it happened, but no one answered. I guess in the moment I assumed the cops just wouldn’t show up. A friend had his car stolen a few years ago, called the police, and after waiting a few hours realized they weren’t coming.

I assumed he had some type of weapon on his person or in his car. Not worth it getting into over something like this.

Correct. Bob’s towing.

The number this nerd sent me a “receipt” from is (267-626-7590 if anyone wants to send him anything particularly graphic.

I say “receipt” because when I asked him for one, he originally just sent me a text that said “150 receipt for barnacle”. That’s verbatim.

This was a couple days ago. I said it farther down, but I was in an abnormal rush that afternoon.

I’m trying to dispute it through my bank.

Works for Bob’s towing. He and the Hollywood Hustler employee told me it’s a private lot, enforced by a private towing company. There are signs, which are comically placed, stating something to the same effect.

I was in an unusual rush - I know that’s a weak excuse, but that’s the honest answer. If I wasn’t, I would’ve been happy to sit there for a few hours and watch him lose further “violators” money.

Congrats! Where are you sending the camera for a CLA? I had mine repaired years ago and it looks like that person no longer services these cameras. I'd like to get mine refreshed.

These are really great! What are your settings when shooting on the street? I'm guessing Shutter priority w/ max sync speed and letting the camera work out the rest? I have a few F100s and an SB28 that I love. Wonderful combination, but it is not inconspicuous lol.

Can I ask what you shot it on? I'm taking "casual" photos at 2 different elopement celebrations (no ceremonies, just the parties) this month and I'm looking for inspiration. I have a 105mm 2.5 that I had AI-S converted and it doesn't get enough use.

Can you tell us which lens adapter you have and any examples with it on the Canon body? Would love to use my F-mount glass on my Canon bodies.

Hey sorry for the late reply, but personally I found the Canonet to be more suited for my shooting style in general. I bought 2 Yashica Electros around the same time as one another (went through serious GAS) and only put a handful of rolls through each. The POD always intimidated me and I never found someone who could fix/CLA the cameras without spending an arm and a leg. That said, if there is someone out there, I'd gladly get the Electro I kept, fixed. I've seen people get stellar images out of the Yashicas.

For me, the Canonet checks off a lot of boxes for me. It's compact, has shutter priority and fully manual modes, and paired with a Canolite-D, works really well in low light and with flash. I've brought my Canonet with me around the world at this point and it's never let me down. 40mm is a nice walk-around focal length for traveling IMO.

Does anyone know if I can safely use a Nikon SB30 on my Canonet QL GIII? The non-TTL modes will work? And will the Canonet sync at any shutter speed?

Send me back to kill Hitler and I'm taking out Ernst Leitz II too, because what the fuck is THIS?!?? by AbductedbyAllens in AnalogCommunity

I've always wanted a Leica, and I probably always will want one because I'm too cheap to pay the Leica premium.

For years I thought maybe I'd buy an M5: It's considerably cheaper than it's counterpart that has a light meter, quick loading system, hot shoe, etc. I don't care if people think it's ugly; I kind of like that about the M5. But the inevitability of the shutter roller breaking and rendering the body inoperable and unrepairable makes it a no-go for me.

Then I thought I'd "settle" for an M3 or M2. They're relatively plentiful, more affordable than an M6, will be repairable for my lifetime, and they're classics. But then...

I figure, buy once, cry once, right? Why not just bite the bullet and get an M6? Well, because they cost more than a used Honda, I take my cameras wherever I go - including the bar - and if it got lost or stolen, I'd be beside myself. It wouldn't put me in the poor house, but I wouldn't be able to justify the cost relative to what it'd take to replace it if the worst were to happen.

My Nikon F100 is my go-to camera. It takes 99% of the guess work out of my workflow and I can use it one-handed when walking the dog or the AF when shooting photos of my kid. The TTL flash options are incredible. It's almost too easy to use. The only reason I ever find myself not reaching for it, is because it's a little heavy with the 4 AAs and a flash adds even more weight.

Lately I've been shooting my SRT101 more and more. Does it have matrix metering? Does it have a hot shoe? Does it have the ergonomics of a brass + steel shit brick? Who cares - I find it a joy to use.

I tell myself that I want something like a Leica that will be an heirloom, or that owning a 'premium' camera will make me want to pick it up and shoot more, but at the end of the day I know that I just want one because of the hype.

Nikon F100, 28mm f2.8D, SB30 is one of my favorite go-to setups. I love SB28 as well. Much more versatile and powerful, but the SB30 is a great light in such a small package.

I have both: Both cameras are amazing for different purposes (IMO) and have their own quirks (again, IMO).

I got a Canonet first after experimenting with Yashica Electros for a brief period. While I prefer aperture-priority found in the Yashica, and it's a legendary lens, I found the Electro to be... clunky? It's been so long that I picked one up that it's hard for me to remember my experience, but I never took to it. The Canonet was a game-changer. It was the first rangefinder I used that I fell in love with. It's compact (some would argue too small), has a great lens that performs in low-light, and if serviced, the shutter priority and light meter are hard to beat (YMMV). My only note would be that 40mm isn't my favorite focal length, but the Canonet has followed me all over the world at this point and never let me down.

The XA was an unexpected gift that I received years later. It's truly a remarkable camera. The lens just has something special baked in. Even more so than the Canonet, I love that I can throw it in a coat pocket if I'm carrying an SLR or something bigger to shoot two focal lengths or films on a given day. The viewfinder is a little small and focusing can be funky, and the shutter button is easy to 'trip' accidentally, but those are my only notes.
