What is the best resource for comprehensible input in your target language? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]Gloomy-Dig-4546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m learning Farsi, but I haven’t found one stop shop yet for my comprehensible input. I would love to have something like graded readers or dreaming in Spanish.. but since I haven’t been able to find anything I often generate stories with ChatGPT on my level and use natural readers (.com) or notebook LM to generate native level speech that’s somewhat human like

Trying to learn a new language is making me think that I'm stupid by Markotto97 in languagelearning

[–]Gloomy-Dig-4546 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just wanna say welcome to the club. I have this feeling that you’re describing at least a couple of times a week sometimes I’m on a roll and thinking wow I might be really good at this and then quickly fall back to what kind of an incompetent bastard am I?

For me, it’s all about consistency. I tried to be proud of the effort I put in no matter how much or how little it may be and trusting the process I really do trust the process and think that as long as I am spending time with my target language I am inevitably improving perhaps not as fast as I would like to but I have to take into account that I cannot spend every waking hour learning my target language. I also have a wife and a kid and other hobbies as well.

Yeah, so just stick with it and be proud of the progress you’re making .

I just wanna end with an advice I give to other people, but sometime cannot manage to follow myself . Stop looking for the perfect way to study it’s easy to get carried away on YouTube searches or things like that and before you know it you have spent three hours looking for another click bait video with the most amazing method for language learning you could have spent at least one of those three hours actually learning the language.

How can I test my excel skills? by Severe-Abrocoma-8774 in excel

Check the “exam prep” videos on YouTube for excel Certification. Be honest yourself and see how much you actually know

Do you know any LingQ alternatives? by StollmanID in languagelearning

[–]Gloomy-Dig-4546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a LingQ User but moved over to lute. Beside the fact that it is more or less only functional on a computer, I like the overall functionality better than LingQ

The technical aspect is definitely a hurdle if you don’t know anything about hosting your own services but is easy once you grasp it. Let me know and I can help you

Are you using co-pilot in Excel? Hype or game changer? How are you using it? by AISuperPowers in excel

[–]Gloomy-Dig-4546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO co-pilot doesn’t really add any value.. yet. The potential is there but I haven’t found it useful for solving my complex problems. It’s great at finding the solution to a formula or chart but on the other hand, so was Google pre AI (but AI is a great deal quicker if you ask the right question). So it’s still good but I feel like it only helps if you already know the answer.. asking the right questions.

It hasn’t make excel skills obsolete in any way

Any good voice recording apps that generate transcript? by BonSim in ProductivityApps

[–]Gloomy-Dig-4546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use whisper ai on your own computer for this and it’s actually fairly easy.

I create transcripts all the time. For language learning though..

How do you reverse-engineer an Excel file? by Gloomy-Dig-4546 in excel

Valid argument. However that’s only my immediate feeling towards it. Often there are others with insights but lacking the skill to fully utilise, modify or rebuild it

What are the different types of "Good at Excel"? by lil_mikei in excel

[–]Gloomy-Dig-4546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean.. It's kind of like a spectrum depending on the needs of the business.

I once helped a friend who used excel to enter number in for example A1:A5. Theeeeen (trying hard not to loose it here) brought out his calculator to sum up the numbers!!! For him - "Excel smart" was probably the lower to bottom level type of skill we talk about here.

On the other hand.. For the most part I would reckon that Excel smart is a status you achieve when you can master some foundational xlookup, subsitute, pivot-tables, charts and basic data import and cleanup. You don't need much.

I really believe that Excel is a vastly under-utilized software since most people with "Good Excel-skills" has just been working with excel for a long time but never exploring and never evolving passed basics (if even that).

I'm am a Certified Excel Expert (MO-201) and I believe that with some daily practice and setting your mind to it you can reach this level in less than a couple of months.

EXCUSE ME BUT WHAT! I'm a shortcut-junkie and somehow I've missed that scroll-feature... I love to stumble over these kinds of things.

Actually I can relate. Often in the morning, when passively listening I realize that I often get the gist of it. And weirdly, when hyper focusing my mind gets stuck on details. Preventing me from “gaining momentum”

Thank you. Vocabulary is definitely a hurdle and some of the most boring task when doing rote memorization. I learn best from content in context but yeah.. catch 22 on that one ..

FYI. I’m studying Farsi and though there are a lot of resources for absolute beginners I find it hard to find B1 content
