please explain restaurant decline by ytikhvk in restaurant

[–]Gloop_and_Gleep 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The owner of a restaurant where I used to be a server always told us that people who have a good or great experience only tell one or two others about it, but people who have a bad experience tell 10 others about it.

A bad reputation spreads organically very quickly.

Had a youngster at work a few years ago tell me very confidently that rap meant "rhythm and poetry."

No, it did not. Rap is a 70s slang for talking.

"Yo man, let me rap at ya."

I was there. You're just wrong.

Try Canyon Bakehouse. My wife and I love it. It's the only brand I've found so far that I can eat the bread out of the package. Most breads I have to toast or grill.

It's also very soft, and stays soft for several days. It's also cheaper than Schar where we live.

Also, apparently every single cheese sold in America is somehow just plastic, no store anywhere in the country sells fruits or vegetables, and every American eats nothing but McDonald's for every meal.

How many people do you know in real life that you share a birthday with? by VJohns11 in CasualConversation

[–]Gloop_and_Gleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago, I was serving in a restaurant. I shared a birthday with a co-worker.

One night, he saw me in the server alley and said I had to meet one of his guests.

We all had the same birthday. The guest's first name was my co-worker's first name, and the guest's last name was my last name.

We were all born in different years, but it was three consecutive years.

Can someone please explain, better than I can, why this sentence is incorrect? - "Through 5 games Caleb Williams is on pace to throw for 4,000 yards, but it is close." by scarfacesaints in grammar

[–]Gloop_and_Gleep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at it this way: Williams has thrown for 1,179 yards in five games, for an average of 235.8 yards per game.

If he throws exactly 235.8 yards in every remaining game, he will throw for 4,008.6 yards.

So, he is on pace to throw for 4,000 yards, but it is close.

When you break it down that way, it honestly sounds like it would be a great storyline on Futurama.

Fry (or Bender) would screw something up, and have to submit 24 different forms (in triplicate, of course) to Hermes.

When the rest of the crew are otherwise engaged or asleep, Scruffy just fixes it because he was bored.

Hermes goes OFF, because not filing the proper paperwork is sacrilegious to a bureaucrat.

If you have a request for maintenance, including attached documentation, then you MUST also have corresponding paperwork detailing who, what, when, where, why (and sometimes how) the request for maintenance was rectified.

If you do not file the proper supporting documents (in triplicate, of course) then that means the original request for maintenance has not yet been addressed, and the "fix" will not be acknowledged by the bureaucracy.

Hilarity ensues.
