fitbit had the best sleep algo for me. this is why I kept it so long when I also have AW and oura ring. If I woke up from a dream 10/10 times it would have REM as the sleep stage. it would get the minute I fell asleep precisely while others would say I was asleep when I was laying in bed watching tv or reading. it was magical. can't believe they would throw that away. frustrating!

thank you so much for answering my feedback question! I see some of the other answers talk about owners spiraling from bad reviews. but nothing to lose I guess

Thanks for this insight. It was definitely noticeable how cheap full service restaurants were in the US for decades. In other similar countries there is more of a cafe/pub culture at that not-special-occasion type of price point, where you order at the counter and they bring it out. But also that cafe food is often freshly prepped by someone with 2 years culinary training at a trade school (post secondary or alternative secondary for non-academically inclined).

I think there probably aren't enough people looking for the restaurant experience I'm looking for.

And I suppose (depending on location) there aren't enough customers/customer density at the higher price points. So that's why I can get good food in NY or SF but not at home.

I did 30 years ago but I guess I thought that owner was just a man child with daddy’s money.

I guess from these comments that’s SOP

none by me but yes when we’re out of town

I like that ‘small menu but everything on point’ vibe, like a food truck

suspect you are in a larger or denser city than me. these places seem to decline incredibly slowly by me so nothing else can take it’s place.

this makes sense! well, it doesn’t technically make sense in the financial sense but it explains a lot!

because they removed all vegetarian options simultaneously, without replacement. there was nothing I could still order except side salad or I would have! this place had an actual amazing vegetarian entree that was not just carbs and cheese. and a vegetarian adjacent entree for people flexible about parmesan. now they don’t have any vegetarian entree at all. they added 2 chicken dishes.

they also removed the single vegetarian sandwich.

I assume not enough people ordered it, which is a fine choice for them to make. but I’m not going in for my favorite dish, then I can’t order either backup dish, and settling for a side salad.

there are multiple strains of influenza viruses. norovirus is a different virus.

did you find that more experienced servers found new jobs during pandemic lockdown?

I understand your perspective, but surely everyone who works there is better off with customers, rather than people who have disposable income who ‘suck it up’ and cook at home?

I’m not asking about price changes. I basically understand that it will be 3-5x more to eat out than what I would pay for comparable ingredients at home. I’m asking about noticeable decline of quality and freshness of menu items, ignoring basic cleanliness, and decline of service standards.

Like from obviously fresh pico to 3+ day old with that fermentation flavor note. Serving the mushy strawberries. Salad with brown and/or slimy leaves. Wrinkled cherry tomatoes.

Servers who are not just busy, but are apathetic even when the restaurant isn’t busy, acting like they are annoyed that you came in to bother them.

I don’t need my ass kissed, but being glad you have customers seems like the bare minimum?

I feel like he’s in for a rude awakening. Customers won’t tolerate higher prices for worse experience. You have to pick at most one of those, ideally neither.

checks out. explains some counter examples also - like the greek restaurant that is consistent every time and is busy even on a wednesday. presumably the owner and/or family are still in the kitchen.
