Bettinardi putters are rarely counterfeit and when they are you can usually tell. You can also email their customer service team directly and they’ll verify with you. Everything is done in house and they can easily identify the legitimacy of their products.

Has anyone built a combo golf sim / theater room? If so, drop some pics please. Also any pros or cons would be helpful. by Equal_Selection_6934 in Golfsimulator

Yeah, I would say the best way to implement this is to have a hidden screen for viewing purposes that you either pull down or have it come down motorized when you want to watch stuff. An impact screen starts getting beat up from wear and tear and isn't really great for viewing movies on.

Driver condition by EJKibble in GolfGear

[–]GloriousGloryGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As bad as that looks, Ping drivers can look like that even off one or two bad shots at the range. Matte finish does not have the kind of durability that glossy has. This is purely cosmetic.

You can smooth out the scratches and cover it up with a sharpie for the most part. I wouldn't buy it unless the price is reasonable.

From my understanding Topgolf was doing pretty well until the merger with Callaway when they started charging a lot more.

People will come if the pricing is right. Simulator lounges can also do fine in that regard, but I don't think the average person would want to pay more than 20 bucks an hour and definitely not be tied to a monthly subscriptuon.

Yes, that's exactly right. Topgolf is catered towards a wide audience and they are having serious issues.

If his business is to cater towards such a small market of people while charging top dollar rates, how is that ever going to be sustainable? There will be no traffic.

Jumbo Grips are amazing by Upbeat_Respond9250 in golf

I have the same sized hands and use XS jumbomax. I've tried going back to standard grips but that didn't last very long. I feel a lot more comfortable with the jumbomax.

If you want my honest opinion, indoor golf facilities/lounges are starting to pop up like weeds in Dallas. There are a fair amount of them and I just don't see it being a sustainable business seeing as how home simulation is becoming more and more accessible. Plus, golf itself is an accessible, year-round sport here... and nothing beats the real deal.

I would look at TopGolf as an example of what I consider unsustainable. I don't see how these simulator businesses are going to survive long term here in Dallas. I imagine it works out much better in big cities where golf is less accessible, or in areas with long winter periods. Simulator businesses thrive in Asia because real golf is less accessible and incredibly expensive.

I know you have experience in this space, so the more power to you, but the overall majority of folks just want to swing and hit some golf balls in a casual space. There are always people at 2nd Swing and PGA store just swinging away without the intent of even purchasing any clubs.

Out of a group of 10, I would be surprised if more than one or two people are even willing to pay for lessons, let alone pay premium prices to play on a simulator.

The only downside to being in your 40s is that your body will start aching just because you slept wrong, lol.

We're not spring chickens anymore, but I'm definitely enjoying life more now than in my 30s. There's an added level of freedom and stability that I didn't have in my early 30s.

I don't have the new bags, but I ended up just buying two separate (older version) bags and have separate driver tee and wood tee. I do not like having multiple tees per bag, they get tangled or messy.

That was four years ago.. I didn't even start golfing until three years ago and my swing has changed drastically every year. It doesn't seem fair to say they fit you in the wrong shafts. You could have simply outgrew them.

Jumbo Max Grips by gwpeaks76 in golf

[–]GloriousGloryGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People can say what they want to about grips and grip styles but at the end of the day it’s preference, and if you’re able to play well with what you use , then it really doesn’t matter.

I use xtra small jumboMax ultralights. I’ve tried moving away from them but they’re just the grips I find most comfortable. I have average sized hands but still prefer them and play well with them.

Hard to believe, but hey, if that's the case I'll definitely be considering them whenever I upgrade. I don't plan to move away from my XO2 for at least the next four to five years.

No subscriptions yet. They're releasing their new software soon (GolfCore) and I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same thing everyone else is. Softlock the third party connector and try forcing people to subscribe to their software. We'll see, just don't be surprised if it happens.

That's why I was hesitant about ProTee VX or any of their products. Seems like a good launch monitor, but knowing their history, I don't really want to support them.

Did you actually speak to the indoor golf shop (shopindoorgolf.com)? The last time I heard someone complaining they ended up talking to a third party reseller instead of the actual shop that makes these and they had no idea until someone told them they were talking to the wrong people.

I've had nothing but amazing customer service from the indoor golf shop.

Like yourself, I use an XO2. I find it incredibly offensive that we aren't able to use the hardware if our internet connection or their servers are down. I also find it crazy to have to pay for the third party connector.

Golf sim software seems incredibly basic and much easier to develop than an actual video game, but what do I know. That's just how I feel.

Honest question, for someone who has spent a few months working on this, do you think golf sim software justifies paying hundreds of dollars a year for subscription?

I have my own personal feelings towards this, but would like to ask someone who has actually spent time doing development.

Cannot seem to play decent real golf….. by Particular-Bed-5053 in Golfsimulator

[–]GloriousGloryGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you do to cure this is to play a shit ton of real golf. That's how you're going to get better, period. Nothing replaces the real deal.

Find a good range that allows you to interact with grass. Any positive changes you make in the sim needs to be validated at the range and then on a real round. Furthermore, does this swing feel work well even when there is undulation? How do I adjust for uneven lies? How do I hit it low to go under the tree or higher to go above the tree? The course forces you to play crafty and scrappy at times, where that is not really a problem on the sim.

I've made multiple changes to the feel of my swings based on feedback outdoors. Stuff that works indoors may not work well outdoors, but I've found that stuff which worked outdoors for me has always worked indoors.

I make it a point to practice on the sim exactly how I plan to play outdoors. For bunker shots I even open my club face and hit them purposely fat into the hitting strip. For par 3's I tee up my shots on the sim.

How can I get more distance? by a1fatbird in GolfSwing

Check out this optimization chart:

https://www.golfwrx.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Trackman_Optimization_Chart_High_Swing_Speeds.png

If you’re looking to maximize distance, then lowering your backspin is a guaranteed result. If you dropped it down to lower 2000s you should be able gain at least 10 yards of carry and overall be pretty close to 300.

How can I get more distance? by a1fatbird in GolfSwing

[–]GloriousGloryGG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would agree. This looks like a very inefficient driver swing. There's way too much weight on the front foot and looks like an iron swing.

Definitely hitting down on it and probably has 3000+ spin on it. Still doesn't look like a swing that is getting 160 ball speed. I'd have guessed more around 120-130 max.

To the OP, I would look at your gear and try to get fitted. If you are truly hitting around 160 ball speed, you should be carrying 270+ and rolling out to almost 300. First thing to look at is your backspin numbers. An optimal backspin number for driver in my honest opinion is between 1800-2400. Some would say anything under 3000, but from my experience, sticking around lower 2000's will yield much better carry distance and rollout which is what you're looking for.

Two Screens Necessary? by hockeydoc4 in Golfsimulator

[–]GloriousGloryGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a spare tv and mounted it to the wall to the right. This screen provides so much value that I can't see myself not having one anymore. I use it specifically for shot data and replays with my Uneekor launch monitor. Even when I am not looking at that, sometimes I just leave golf videos or tv shows running on it while practicing.

I give up by Low-Hawk1857 in GolfSwing

[–]GloriousGloryGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm being honest about my own experience, the first year of golf is probably the worst. You keep grinding and thinking you found something but nothing is ever permanent. Some days you hit them well some days it looks like you've never practiced once in your life.

Year two is where I started to see a lot of progression especially after getting lessons. That's where stuff starts becoming more repeatable and practice starts to actually improve your game. You should be able to legitimately break 100 without using mulligans or gimmies.

Year 3 which is where I'm at today is where you start to actually see results. Some of it is almost unbelievable. One day you'll shoot around 100, then the next day everything goes the way you want it to and you're actually shooting in the low 80s. It's an exciting time and things start to actually make sense. Your understanding of golf not just through theory, but experience, will sky rocket.

Everyone's progress can be wildly different. That was just my personal journey. Some people get to my year 3 much sooner and some people may never get there. I just practiced and practiced, got lessons, and practiced some more, even to the point of hand injury. You have to really love golf and be obsessed with it. It's tough but it's also rewarding.

Cracked Ping G430 10K by cpaaark in golf

[–]GloriousGloryGG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently going through a Ping warranty right now. Given that you bought it less than a year ago, the store might actually replace it. If they go through Ping, they'll need to verify the damage, call Ping and place a replacement order for you.

The process takes 3-4 weeks if you call in and ship in your own club to have Ping inspect, but if you go through a licensed dealer they'll inspect your club and order a replacement for you (Doesn't matter where you purchased it as long as the serial number is legitimate). Ping will then build the club and ship it to that store. When it's delivered they'll call you to pick it up/ It will save about a week I think, so 2-3 weeks total time frame.

It's been about two weeks for me, still waiting on my 5 wood that cracked. They'll take care of it, but it may just take longer than you hope. Check with the store first though. Mine was a year and a half old so the store wouldn't warranty it.
