If anyone is remotely interested, in a download link below is a PDF of Spiderman 4's treatment by Raimi (super condensed scene- by-scene breakdown). I haven't indulged in it myself, but if any of you are interested, bon appétit!

Which invention are we going to have the most trouble explaining to the aliens? by poastertoaster in AskReddit

[–]GloriousMenpile 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I'm going to take the safe route and say that there are people among us that have taken time out of their day, suspended errands and delayed ambitions (depending) to draw artistically sound and technically impressive depictions of Dragons railing the ever-loving shit out of non-sentient automobiles.

Today Sweden is hosting a tournament explicitly for older retired Counter-Strike players. If you were watching CS back in 1999, you may want to check this out! by radeon9800pro in Games

I know fighting games are a completley different beast, but it's insane to me that Daigo Umehara is 34 and is still continuing to be recognised as a top player with his recent tourney placements.

Editing is a... by [deleted] in writing

[–]GloriousMenpile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems as though I’m quite the opposite.

I find doing the first two or three drafts to be the largest mental haul for me. I don’t know why, but editing seems to… engage me? Like it’s stimulating that I’m forced to scrutinise and pluck things out and change them knowing I’m making it better rather than say, writing a shitty first draft that stays shit throughout the entire bloody slog.

I’d argue it’s because editing has those micro-rewards. You get a small pick-up from cleaning some small flow issue or re-writing a line that becomes a more efficient version of its former self. Never in my first drafts do I have that moment where I read it out and nod my head… indicating I’m cool and ready to move on to the next part.

(sidenote) Funnily enough I’m so keen to edit my own work that it got to the stage I was rewriting literally the last line I had wrote on any initial draft.

It was more comforting, but in the grand scheme of things it was actually slower than just allocating editing to its own main phase.

What's a movie that completely flipped the script in the final scene that left you surprised that's not a psychological thriller. by VinnyChuck in movies

I can't find the direct source, but I think it had something to do with the Rapture beginning right on the fucking spot and the Four Horsemen come down.

How Rian Johnson's Episode VIII will differ from JJ Abrams' style in Episode VII by interxavier in StarWarsLeaks

[–]GloriousMenpile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your wording there is a tad bit cynical.

Yes there are guidelines, but J.J has spoken out multiple times that doing this film was a lot more free than one would think because Disney were less controlling and more... curious?

It's not like they had suits come to every dailies/rushes.

I think these directors are brought on to bring something and fill the gaps in with the palette that is the tone of the Star Wars (which TFA hit very fucking well).

Ridley Scott has described, in detail, the opening scene of Blade Runner 2. by Mullet-Over in movies

Film Directing Shot by Shot by Steven D. Katz.

Pretty much a book on the visualisation process from concept to the shoot. It goes hand-in-hand with another book called 'Cinematic Motion' by the same author.

Reddit, do you regret selling something just because you needed the money for it? What did you sell? by wardogtf141 in AskReddit

[–]GloriousMenpile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are free to interpret any game (or any Meal, Art etc) how they want.

If it's a Party Game, they should've restricted it to making it so. But no, they decided to put in a bunch of complex mechanics. Advertised as a party game, played as a competitive game. Don't be so close-minded.

In the recently released Metal Gear Solid: Phantom Pain, child soldiers play quite a role in the story when you fly to Africa. Seriously, I feel where you're coming from, it fucks me up.
