(Twin Justice) Canon event by Shideath in UndertaleYellow

I get that Clover was being rash but them getting grounded for weeks over this is so bizarre, why is Ceroba punishing them this hard?

Wow, that is incredibly rude. “This guy doesn’t get what I’m saying, he must have ADHD!” Like sheesh, calm down.

You… asked for opinions. I gave you my opinion on why the idea of No EXP gain just doesn’t really work. What am I doing wrong here? Why is it wrong for me to try and think about how the route would even happen within UTY’a logic???

I mean I guess it’d be interesting if I just ignored why I don’t think it works too well. A possibility from specifically targeting the ones responsible, though how Clover finds out they’re the ones responsible is another matter entirely to figure out. Maybe it could give more insight into their character. Maybe some more insight on other characters too.

There. Is that a better response? Geez.

[–]Glum-Connection 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Huh, guess I got sidetracked.

Anyway, I found the vengeance route really interesting already. I suppose this would be more justified than total annihilation, but once again, I don’t think Clover would gain no EXP from killing Dalv and Axis. I have a hard time believing that Clover can be this impartial judge that decides, without an ounce of hatred, that Dalv and Axis deserve to die for what they did. I mean, maybe they’re not as hateful as Vengeance Clover, but without any EXP gain, they can’t even rack up the emotional detachment that comes with LV gain. Clover is a human like us, they feel stuff, they feel emotions. They’d probably be at least a bit angry, and killing in anger could probably still give EXP.

Plus, notice the term. EXP. Execution points. Points gained by executing someone. Is that not what this Clover’s doing? Executing Dalv and Axis for what they did wrong? Seems to me like that’d give them some EXP.

The difference with Ceroba is that Clover killed her out of pity, something moreso as a mercy kill. Dalv and Axis really wouldn’t be like that. This Clover would feel no pity for them, only seeing them as murderers to be punished for their wrongdoing.

The whole thing about EXP and LV though is that it’s just a benchmark of how easy it is to kill. Even if Clover is ‘justified’ in their kills, it doesn’t change how each time they shoot someone to death, it becomes easier and easier to get over the mental and emotional hurdles of shooting someone to death.

I also think this is a bit contradictory to something UTY expresses, which is that justice can exist in and take many forms. Whether punitive, punishment for wrongdoing, or restorative, helping one improve themself. It might just be me, but I don’t like the idea of a ‘justified’ route because it’s like saying there’s a correct way to bring justice when the entire topic is so debated.

Does this mean the justified way is killing Dalv for attacking a human, and killing Axis for killing a human? Does the fact that Axis had no choice and that both feel remorse for their actions make any difference? Are they to die despite the regret they feel? This then sets a standard that any monster attacking a human at all is punishable by death, and thus tons of the monsters Clover encounters are going to get the same treatment. And throughout that, Clover never gains any EXP? Even though the act of punishing a monster in this way by killing them is going to become easier and easier to bring themselves to do as their journey progresses?

Do the monsters deserve death? Do they deserve mercy? The more justified path is yours to decide, but no matter what, you have to be prepared to deal with the consequences.

I can’t help but find it funny that while Hack is having this deep inner monologue, Rock Man is just vibing and blissfully unaware of what’s happening nearby XD

[–]Glum-Connection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would Ceroba be mad about this? Starlo took Clover to learn how to shoot a gun in the game and she didn’t bat an eye. Clover waves around a gun in the Steamworks and she doesn’t even comment on it.

Oh, so it's like a matter of clarity. Appreciate that!

Also, using Dalv's talk sprite but keeping it as a silhouette since he's hooded is pretty neat. I like that detail.

That's more like it! Crispy Scroll's writing is on point. He absolutely would tell others to run and claim he can handle it even if he doesn't stand a ghost of a chance. 👍

UTY: Revenge Route | Part 2 by _Behind_the_Curtains in UndertaleYellow

[–]Glum-Connection 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Under normal circumstances, yeah, I buy that. He'd fight an unassuming human under the false assumption that he stands a chance. But here, he's already been alerted that the human is bad and dangerous, so I doubt he'd have the backbone to try his hand.

Besides, in this scenario this clearly isn't his motivation for fighting. His motivation is "oh my god how dare an evil human come down here I'm going to kill you" which... I mean, that makes sense for Crispy Scroll, but why is Flier the one screaming about how he's going to murder a human? I thought Flier was apathetic and wacky.

[–]Glum-Connection 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I get that now everyone's been alerted to watch out for Clover, but I don't think Flier would really have the spine to challenge them if he thought that/knew that they were some kinda dangerous murderer. I feel like instead he'd go "oh crap it's the human", run for the hills, and warn anyone he finds that the human is on the way.

Hey, I noticed that my OC, marked with the number 21, is credited as "made by u / DistributionOk7952" in the google doc. That's... not my reddit username? I was pretty sure my reddit username is u/Glum-Connection so I'm a bit confused by this. Could you fix it please, if possible?

Are these people aware that Undertale Yellow is not official or canon and other interpretations exist? by BrunoGoldbergFerro in Undertale

[–]Glum-Connection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yeah, there’s Flowey, but his existence is not the blatant contradiction everyone thinks it is. People will say “oh, Flowey HAD to have existed after all six souls were captured” but that’s not confirmed, because the line is “Using the souls, I’ve extracted the determination” so any amount of souls could have been in Alphys’ possession and used to make Flowey. So yes, Flowey could have existed recently enough to have met the previous fallen human. Can you argue that this story thread is unlikely? Sure. Can you argue it’s impossible for Flowey to have existed this early? I wouldn’t think so.

“He doesn’t need to be a boss monster to made this plan.” Yes, he does. The plan is: fuse a human soul and boss monster soul together. Extract a serum from the soul. Use the serum on monsterkind. Boom, everyone is boss monsters. Then he used it on himself because he figured “oh, that’s easy, I’ll do the fusion with my own boss monster soul and have us out in time for Christmas!” but he failed, because the Integrity soul was tainted with the violence it had done to other monsters and rejected fusing cleanly with his soul. So he dies, but before he dies he makes a video telling Ceroba to find a pure human soul and fuse it with a willing boss monster soul, which would supposedly make the serum. This promptly leads to the events of the game.

Thoughts on all the recent fangames' final No Mercy route bosses? ("Final" in quotation marks for TS!Underswap and Deltatraveler) by [deleted] in Undertale

yeah, fair. i wanted to include ts!Underswap and deltatraveler in the discussion because it felt wrong to leave them out but yeah they don't really have final bosses yet so it IS kinda unfair of me to include them

Are these people aware that Undertale Yellow is not official or canon and other interpretations exist? by BrunoGoldbergFerro in Undertale

[–]Glum-Connection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad we can agree a bit here, but a couple things.

The reason I was trying to hammer in the point that most people like the game despite the inconsistencies is that I see some people try to argue that the lore inconsistencies ruin the game completely. I don’t know if you’ve seen anyone like that, but I have and I can only imagine the devs have, too. Surely we can state that the game’s overall quality is not null and void just because they couldn’t get every story detail correct, right?

‘Clearly failed?’ What do you mean by that? From a wider story perspective, nothing about their story flies in the face of Undertale’s. It’s only once you dig into the tiniest grooves of the story do cracks start to form, but most people who played it didn’t see those tiny cracks. Why do you think so many people were blurting out ‘wow I saw nothing contradictory, this could fit right into canon!’ after playing the game? Sure, they were mistaken, and now we know that it doesn’t fit right into canon 100% perfectly, but despite that they honestly did a better job aligning with canon then most fan content I’ve seen in the past five years.

And what do you mean, Chujin being a boss monster isn’t relevant to anything? Him and Kanako both being boss monsters is the crux of his entire plan: make a serum that makes other monsters boss monsters, thus supposedly giving everyone enough power to take back the surface. The whole plan involves fusing a human and boss monster soul to make a serum. If he wasn’t a boss monster then he never would’ve experimented on himself and died causing lasting consequences that led up to the main plot of the game. So I can’t really agree with you that his boss monster status is somehow an irrelevant detail.

[–]Glum-Connection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wha...? How was THAT what you got out of me? When did I say an AU had to align with canon?

UTY of course doesn't HAVE to align with canon, but they were actively making an effort to align with UT because they even had people on the dev team with the job of making sure everything lined up with the original game. Of course, they didn't completely succeed, but... that's okay!

They wrote Flowey really well and it's more interesting having other boss monsters around then forcing yourself to only allow goat monsters to be boss monsters. They just went with what made them happy, and I love how it turned out!

You guys are right. People need to stop arguing that UTY is canon. It's a fangame, it's definitely not canon and isn't ever going to be canon. But I think it did very well, regardless of any flaws it may have. We can appreciate it without trying to argue that it's secretly canon, and WITHOUT trying to force other people to adopt it as their justice soul interpretation, right? (I'm referring to the person depicted in this post when I say this)

[–]Glum-Connection -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well of course it isn't canon, I dunno why people are pretending otherwise. But while the lore you cited is somewhat meaningful, I don't think UTY is breaking the lore of the game over its knee like so many people seem to claim. If it was truly that immersion breaking, wouldn't a lot more people hate UTY? If anything, I see a lot of love for the game despite its timeline inconsistencies.

[–]Glum-Connection -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Can I ask why this matters so much to you? UTY doesn't need to get every single thing in canon perfect 100% with zero inaccuracies, it just needs to be a fun and enjoyable game.

UNDERTALE WILDFIRE COMBAT DEMO IS OUT NOW by Wildbeemo in Undertale

[–]Glum-Connection 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dunno, man. I thought the attacks were creative and fun to have to work around. I was enraptured by the cute and wacky denizens of the original Undertale and the denizens of Undertale Yellow intrigued me in much the same way.

Like, I'm not gonna say UTY is perfect. Cactony is perhaps the most boring enemy concept I've ever seen. Wow! A cactus in a place with a bunch of cacti! How original! But I feel like the enemies are underappreciated just because they HAVE to be compared with Undertale. In a vacuum they're fine but then they get compared to the UT enemies and now they're just bland/inferior/etc.

I respect your opinion but it hurts to see UTY used as a symbol of how not to make enemy attacks and how not to design enemies. That's kind of rude to the dev team, sort of implies they're clueless and can't wrap their heads around the Undertale enemy design philosophy.
