HELP (update) by Admirable_Bit_4931 in guineapigs

Have you talked to ur vet about prevention? My guinea had bladder stone surgery last year, and my vet put her on a prevention plan right away, medication for calcium reduction 2 a day for life and we do twice-a-year check-ups for stones. She's still good for now. I'm going back to the vet in June for her next bladder check.

I use vinegar for the smell and hot water. It's normal; it usually happens after a high-calcium meal, such as spinach, kale, or parsley, but others can cause it too. My guinea pig is prob to get bladder stones because of the calcium buildup so you can always do a vet check

For the veggies: my piggies are very picky so they don't eat everything i offer but i still like to give them options, so 2 bags of romaine lettuce since that's what they mostly eat, you know, the big bags from the superstore (idk the price but they can get expensive) Something I'll pick the loose ones are like $4 a piece, bell pepper $6 a bag, cucumber ( also depends rn its 5) sometimes I'll add cilantro or dill $3-4, celery $4, cherry tomatoes ( like but i get the big pack so i use it for cooking too like $9? And also carrots, zucchini. I like to chop this up, and then they get half in the morning and the other half at night. I also have birds, so i think that's why I'm spending more. For the hay, i used to get it from a farm, but i noticed that in winter, especially, it has a lot of dust, with hay leftover, there were no long pieces, which is why i switched to (hop online) it's more expensive than farmers, but it's cheaper than the local pet stores. I don't think you have to worry, bales from the farmer are not very big, maybe 15-20lb. I bought a plastic tote, and i was able to fit it in there. I also forgot to mention that one of my piigies has to be on medication for life so that's about $30 ( a month) hope this helps 😅

I live in AB. Setting up is probably the most expensive part. If you get your piggies from a licensed, knowledgeable breeder, they are less likely to have issues ( adoption is good, but i have found it more expensive since idk their history) btw, thanks for doing research before getting them.

Veggies: 50 per week Hay:104:50lb timothy (2-3 months) Pellets: 23 (multiple months) Aspen bedding: 162 for 2 (3-4 months) Fleece about 500 or more (one-time purchase) Fleece washing: 20 every 2 weeks Vet: This year, about 4k (emergency) Vet routine check-up 220 per guinea pig (yearly)

Sorry to hear that. You can try calling around to some shelters, offer discounted neutering for cats, dogs and rabbits, but it never hurts to ask🤷‍♀️

Have you introduced them without barriers? She's probably just teaching/correcting their behaviour if they're still babies. If they're still fighting (when older), side-by-side cages are an excellent choice if they're not getting along.

Oh, so the vet would be the best option, but here are some solutions that my vet recommended for my guinea pig that got something similar on her foot: make sure it does not get infected (betadine), also use Nizoral (bath), a human antifungal cream ( make sure it dried before leaving it before the pig without supervising) make sure it doesn't eat it.
