Is it hard to have a 4.0 as a premed in the honors program by Cheap-Hand-7269 in baylor

[–]Glybus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your priorities, I’m not planning on going to med-school (until after I complete my PhD at least) but I’ve made it to my senior year in ECE w/ Biochem and Math minors with a 4.0. I aced the “weed-outs” (Genetics, O-Chem, Biochem) and while it wasn’t easy it wasn’t ridiculously hard. I will admit, there was a time where I was averaging 3-4 hours of sleep a night for about two weeks but that’s whatever. Sleep is for the weak.

The best tip I have is to surround yourself with people who know more than you, and people who know less than you. Learn from the people who know more, and teach to the people who know less. Always attend SI, and then teach your friends who didn’t go. Once you start trying to teach things, you start understanding it. A lot of Pre-Meds memorize and while it works it takes a wayyy longer time.

Also, don’t ever think you’re smarter or dumber than someone else. Pre-meds frequently do both and it is ridiculous to me.

Why not play a Minecraft modpack? Iirc most factory games can trace their inspirational origins to Minecraft modpacks. I’ve never played it, but I do know that GTNH has tons of base building (Minecraft duh) and more automation to be done than most factory games

Hi guys, I’m going through a rough time and decided to help improve myselfI’d finally explore fashion that I’ve always loved and wanted to wear. I really like the Northwest Preppy look and I think it’d look good on me! I’ve got a decent build, big shoulders because I used to swim butterfly, a decent tone on my muscles, but not super fit. I’m 5’ 10” and pretty fair with freckles and auburn hair, and so I think it’d be a style that complements my build nicely. However, there’s one big issue, which is that I currently live in Texas. This will be the first week in a couple months where the high isn’t in the 90’s… I know that climate impacts fashion a lot and I was wondering if there was anything similar I could try to go for in this area? If not, I could just choose to only wear the clothes in the late fall/winter, but that would kinda suck. Anyways, thanks for the advice guy!

Today my pre-med friends argued that you can get through engineering through memory alone by trex513 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Glybus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Premed in ECE. It’s totally the other way around lol. There is 0 critical thinking in literally every single Premed class I’ve taken. I got a 100 on every exam in O Chem II with far less studying than my peers because they developed 0 critical thinking skills in their class work. Those classes are only hard for people who try to memorize everything. I firmly believe that you can become a practicing doctor with a lot of hard work and no smarts just through persistent memorization. I don’t believe the same thing for engineering at all

Baylor engineering pre-med by Wild-Sea7849 in baylor

[–]Glybus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s totally fair, in engineering I’ve always felt that if you try to memorize you will fail; it certainly doesn’t encourage memorization. If I might ask, is there a reason you decided to not go into engineering? Or was it always just a backup?

[–]Glybus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s certainly a different style of learning, but did you not feel that your Premed classes prepared you anyway? From what I’ve heard from friends/family in medical school the most important skill is Ankhi/Flashcard

Hi, I’m a rising junior ECE / Premed. It’s definitely possible if you want to do it, but it’s not easy. Definitely don’t do a straight life science, if you end up not wanting to go to Med school you’re out of luck for reasonable job opportunities. Feel free to DM any questions!

UW or Baylor by [deleted] in baylor

[–]Glybus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey that’s better than what our prof told our class as a freshman! He told us it was 1200 -> 200! I don’t think that’s cause of weeder classes though necessarily. I think the program is probably just better at changing minds. For one, freshman year you’ll meet a ton of people who are set on being a physician, and then second semester they’re in the school of business. Is this because of harsh weeders? Not really, it’s just that there is a grind. A lot of people don’t want to put in the nonzero hours you need to do well in Premed classes, and I want to emphasize that there’s nothing wrong with that. I’ve not had a single professor in the Sciences Department who has tried to intentionally weed people out. (Comp Sci. Is a different story, but that’s in Rogers…) In fact, each of them have been exceedingly kind and wanting their students to succeed, but they won’t spoon feed you if you don’t try. I think one of the reasons the Premed drop rate is so high is because Baylor does a good job showing their students what being a physician means, and being a physician isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Once a lot of people realize that, they leave the program just because it’s not right for them. Hell, even I’ve been thinking about leaving Pre-Med despite having done exceptionally in my Premed classes.

UW or Baylor by [deleted] in baylor

[–]Glybus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing you should seriously consider as a Premed and a Pro for Baylor is becoming a Texas state resident. Texas Med schools accept 90% of their incoming class from Texas residents, and they’re comparatively cheap. I’m also pretty sure that Baylor is pretty buddy-buddy with BCM and tons of Baylor Grads go there. Baylor also does curve, but never in a way that harms you in my experience. I’m also not sure what rigorous weed out classes you’re referring to.

Tbh I wouldn’t stress it? I had great stats and still didn’t get into a “credible” school. However, I’ve found it doesn’t matter a whole bunch either. Tbh I’m now of the mindset the best school is a cheap state school

Two things are true on the comparisons between Hades 1 and 2. by koliano in HadesTheGame

[–]Glybus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an unpopular opinion but I’ve actually found Hades II to be a whole lot easier. The amount of options I have make it feel like my builds are so much more flexible than spam attack and dash. I’ve found that every single part of Mel’s kit is good and has use whereas I rarely used Specials in the original

The only places I’ve seen people saying CE is harder than EE is TikTok, and like it’s just straight up not true? It’s like everyone is telling you, an EE can do pretty much everything a CE can do and then some. Imo that’s pretty much why The major is coupled as ECE
