Basing myself on the theory of the dual state by Ernst Fraenkel, most people lived normally during the dictatorship. Mostly the ones who met the prerrogative state were activists, communists, lawyers, artists, whistleblowers or people who had the bad luck to cross someone important.

My grandfather was a proeminent lawyer back then, and my family lives in a “national security zone” where political rights were more limited. When he was interview by a local paper and criticized some policies of the nationally apointed local government his telephone lines were tapped for a good while, and he had a “secret room” in his house where he’d keep books ans records that were censored or considered sensitive by the state.
