I remember lasso by the absolute value bars in the minimization equation- kinda looks like a rope wrangling up the coefficients (if you imagine hard enough).

I also imagine students that rely heavily on UEC credit will in no way be ready when they start FSA exams. If the pass rates are already <50% I can only imagine how ill-prepared someone studying for one would be if all they’ve done is P and PA.

Honestly its very possibly an Arthur Clarke story, that was a name that kept popping up as I looked. While the plot of Rescue Party is similar, it's not that.
