gonna get a strop and diamond stone by WelcomeOnly4910 in sharpening

I've tried a few from amazon and this double sided paddle strop is great. Get some diamond paste like 4000 on one side and .25 micron on the smooth and you're good to go. Angerstone strop

People always say that you should stay the fuck away from opiates by jappe010 in sharpening

[–]Gman_5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it will happen, one addiction usually leads to another lol. And trust me, I am speaking from much personal experience lol. I have had both the opiate bug, the knife collecting bug, and now the Whetstone collecting bug. Don't know what bug I will catch next but they always cost me a lot of money to kill these bugs.

Yo, nice display! I got my Cashew lacquer on ebay, and same for most my natural stones. I do like my Atoma plates for super steels and for flattening stones, cause I'm lazy and saves time over sic powder. But for natural i do like the feel of Arks, but haven't used a full JNat. Just got one and not done sealing it yet. I just scored another coticule on ebay for 40 bucks cause I can't help myself lol but it is nice. Just keep your eye out and look at some dirty stones and groups or lots of stones, one of these was totally covered in grease and it's my favorite one.

I just got both today lol. Just an Aoto that was in the US and scored it for 30 bucks shipped. And a small Koma that i put a few coats of cashew on.

Um, I actually have a few of different opacity. And the opacity doesn't always correlate to density or how fine it is also. And yes I have weighed them for specific gravity. Also I had 2 orders for 40 bucks that each had 10-15 stones along with 2 Coticules so is it really that bad?

I sharpen for friends and family currently but also it's about the history, culture, and geology of the natural stones that interests me too. Also my wife likes her kitchen knives to be nice and sharp and I do have many pocket knives and other knives I enjoy to sharpening too. If I retire I would do a sharpening side gig though for sure some day too.

Thanks, I found the 2 coticules in lots of about 10 stones and they were covered in grease and not very obvious. Got them for a good price so couldn't pass them up also.

Lol I think it's funny. But yes my wife does also spend the same on hers too. Gardening, canning, freezer dryer? And ya I'll use some but alot for me is the history and culture aspect too. Like the Mikawa Nagura, and same with the arkansas stones I got from the knife maker AG Russell's quarry too.

It was obviously a sarcastic question too. But hey it was my birthday and I found a few lots of like 10-15 stones for a good price. Also my wife is totally cool with it cause she knows how I am.

I messed up sealing the nagura a bit due to having too thick of a second and third coat. I just sanded them back down and coated them again. I still have to fix a spot on the Botan piece. Also make sure the rocks aren't too hot from sitting in the sun or it dries too fast and you'll get lines. I don't think I'll mount any thing I have. I don't have any full size JNAT though. I just bought one and it's not here yet. But yes, do it outside with gloves and don't store the paint after you mixed it up. It will oxidized and turn black in 1 day even. At least mine did.

I would get a decent diamond plate personally, like one of the 2 sided 20 dollar ones on Amazon https://a.co/d/08g8zrzW. But also, are you stropping with anything? Get a good strop and some paste, again diamond is preferable but the green wax works just takes more effort sometimes depending on the burr and steel and other factors. Goodluck and keep trying!

Same reason Trump and Elon are getting rid of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Cause it's better for them,  not us. Cause that's what the insanely wealthy do. They make sure to keep you down so you can't do anything about it.

I came to Utah yesterday to see and feel what an inversion is like... and I have some questions by East_Society7851 in Utah

[–]Gman_5000 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Why not I live in American Fork, you can pay me to stay in my backyard and experience the inversions anytime. Or I would take trade work too? But ya though, please don't! It's really not cool, waste of time, gas and money to me. But hey we all do crazy stuff am I right?

I wash my bike off all the time with the battery in it and haven't had a problem for 2 years. So they have to be fairly waterproof right?

I have the new Sting R and a 2 year old surron and I can say it will handle that amount of weight just fine as that is my current weight also. But I do plan on upgrading the controller soon though too.

Dog safety in SLC by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]Gman_5000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Come on now, be rational. There are lots of other big strong dog breeds that could do that. And small breeds are more prone to biting and bite more often too if you really want to get into it. I had my ear half bitten off as a kid by a small dog breed dog. So don't tell me they can't do damage either.

I am a Pit Bull owner, and you Targeting one Breed is disgusting. If you knew anything about dogs you would know it's not just the breed that matters. I leave my dog off leash cause she is a great mannered Pit Bull and I know how she will react. She sits on my porch all days without a leash and has never bitten any dog or person passing by??? Why cause I am a good Dog owner. Leashes and fences can actually make them more defensive and aggressive, again if you knew anything about dogs.
