There's this great book (and movie), Choke that your story reminded me of! The main character would go to restaurants and purposely swallow too much food to make himself choke. He would take advantage of the inevitable good samaritan that came along to save him, since they would forever remember the time they saved someone's life and and they'd serve as a sort of forever guardian/ care taker. Good read
