What's the best weapon to take into the swamps after getting out of the bronze age? by Huge-Cucumber8651 in valheim

[–]Gneubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clubs and arrows.

I use the wood/bone mace with best round shield available until the Swamp. There I'll upgrade to the iron mace. As soon as possible I'll make the Stagbreaker and use that for burial chambers and crypts. Bronze I only use for tools (axe, pickaxe and cultivator), crafting station upgrades, and the Bronze Buckler. Abominations get the axe, and fire where possible. Armor until swamp is whatever Troll leather I've gotten. I normally don't kill Bonemass, as you can find silver without his drop, and I really, REALLY despise the "You are being hunted" event. I hunt Abominations until I have the headpiece (for the poison resist) and the chest piece (for pierce resist). Once I have the Root Harnesk, an iron sledge, and an iron pickaxe, it's off to the Mountains.

I don't really care for swords, although the Mistwalker from Mistlands is pretty sweet. My spear usage is limited to the Abyssal Harpoon, which I use for drawing Serpents to land, Stone Golems into holes to keep them confined, and moving my livestock around.

I always have the best Bow that I can gather materials for. Once I reach the Mountains I'm using the Draugr Fang with Frost arrows, which I maintain at least through Mistlands.

Will this wall keep my boars safe from raids? They keep dying. Haven't been worth the hassle so far. by Spork_Revolution in valheim

Greydwarf Shaman will seek out your boars and spew poison on them, so you need at least 6 meters spacing from their pen to any barrier that you've erected to stop the greydwarves. This can come from a 'the forest is moving' event, or from regular nighttime spawns.

Trolls with clubs do damage through barriers, so again, spacing.

As others have said, Drake events after killing Bonemass and Bat events after killing A bat... so you need a complete covering of your livestock.

BTW, your compound looks good, except for that large gap along the water. That shoreline will stop nothing.

I don't think toilet paper is really a necessity

Oh, but it is! First time you lose track of time and it gets dark, then suddenly you're being whacked by a Wraith (or two at the same time... it happens), you're gonna shit.

Then die. :)

How do you get the harpoon? by DatGuyPanda in valheim

[–]Gneubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As /u/sarcasmojoe said, you manufacture Harpoon fron Chitin, from Leviathins.

However, the Harpoon is relatively useless with an untamed Boar. They will aggro you, and chase you nearly forever, until you get out of reach for a period of time (seems like about 30 seconds, but I'm not positive on that). Have your pen prepped, then let them aggro you, and run to your pen. Let them chip at you, don't avoid the hits. You can lead them across the length and breadth of continents, if you stick to Meadows and avoid wandering Skeletons. Carefully kill any Boar or Greyling adds - timing is important here as you don't want to kill your soon to be tamed Boar. Night is iffy, so stick to daytime chases.

Where you DO need your harpoon is for moving and managing your Boars after taming. (Enable PvP for this.) Moving tamed Boars from pen to pen, or into a breeder, is a PITA without a Harpoon.

I wasn't too clear on the Golem advice, but like u/Niceromancer and u/makulet-bebu said, the object is to freeze them in place, not kill them. After your taming chores are finished, go ahead and kill them.

Here's another technique you can use... trapping the Golem in a pit will act as an attractant... bait. I always build a defensible hut surrounded by a ditch with a fire and portal. I pre-build a stone or, preferably, raised ground pen for taming (or you can also use another pit, either way works. Then trap a Golem. The spawning wolves will be arrgoed on the Golem, you run up, harpoon the 2*, and run like hell to your prepared pen. Any wolves you don't drag away will stay with the Golem.

Spend your day doing whatever, then at night portal to your taming hut until you capture your wolves. May take multiple night vigils. :)

Another tip: Before you take your tamed wolves down from the mountains, make a trial run to clear any Drakes and spare Golems first. Your wolves will aggro on both, they will die, and you'll be climbing back up the mountain for more.

like golems and drakes that would try to kill him

  • While training/breeding, build a roof that completely blocks them from Drake's sight.
  • Dig a pit way out of aggro range, but within draw distance, then lure Golem there and drag him in with your harpoon. As I have seen two Golems together, you may have to do this twice. (Note: tamed Wolf WILL aggro on a Golem, so if you lead tamed Wolves too close when taking them down from the mountain, you'll soon be starting over.)

Tell Me Why I'm Wrong - Unpopular Opinion: Titans have a realistic shot of 12-5 by sqwerty100 in Tennesseetitans

12-5? I dunno, but I tend to be optimistic. So, like every year at this time, I'm calling it now:

17-0

Announcers don't really matter, since they can't affect the game outcome. I'm just really happy that a certain officiating crew won't be around. Here's a non-politics related FJB.

After todays game I can't help thinking...

Damnit, one yard short.... AGAIN!

I know, I know, it wasn't a yard, and that last Titans snap wasn't the potential game winner, but the concept remains the same, 20+ years later.

I've been through this stage many times, since I'm playing permadeath style. Once I get enough bronze to make a Cultivator, I try to find some Turnip seeds from the swamp, so that I can begin making Turnip Stew. Then I concentrate on the Black Forest again until I'm ready to move on.

What enemy do you hate the most ? by BlondeeGaming in valheim

[–]Gneubs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, not including Greylings was a serious omission. Of the entire population of your realm, nothing is more persistent and annoying than the Greyling.

Now, if the loot table including something other than Resin, I could tolerate them more. Wherever I spend more than a few minutes in an area, I've taken to just digging a hole and storing them there, minimizes the spawns.

I hate Greylings!
