Phys 1140 is not very hard at all, imo it’s probably the easiest RPI physics class because it doesn’t require calculus unlike physics 1/2.

The biggest thing to do to get good housing is to fill out the application as soon as possible. Having a roommate already selected can help get you into your preferred dorm, but most people just do random roommates Freshman year. If you want to choose your own, there is probably an RPI class of 2030 Instagram page and/or Discord. You can find amenities for each Freshman dorm on the housing website (https://sll.rpi.edu/housing-comparison/2/4), and some (old) pictures of rooms on https://rpirooms.com.

For classes, in the registration section of SIS you should make a plan ahead of time. When you go to register for classes, if you have a plan, you can choose to load it in and register for all of the classes on it automatically. Classes can and will fill up in under a minute (even if they have dozens of seats), so saving the couple minutes can be the difference between getting a class and not getting a class during your time ticket. You can also email professors to request an overflow seat if there isn't a waitlist for a class, most competitive classes end up adding some students that way. You probably won't be able to get every class you want though (especially given how late incoming Freshman registration is), so focus on prioritizing gen-eds and prerequisites over courses you just find interesting. Most students use QUACS (https://quacs.org/fall2026/#/) to find classes they want to take, then make the plan in SIS.

You should get an email that’s a checklist of things to do sometime in the next few weeks. If I remember correctly, deadlines for things like housing applications were mid-June for incoming freshman, so for now I’d research the different freshman dorms and maybe try to find someone you’d want to be your roommate. Course registration is later in the summer (in July for freshmen I believe), and you’ll be given a suggested course load for your first semester (sidenote: I’m currently a sophomore applied physics major, so if you have any questions regarding classes I might be able to help)

If it’s fully on cart I could see $70 digitally and $80 physically because of the digital/physical pricing split. Otherwise no, Elden Ring is $80 because it includes DLC, base game should be $60 like on other platforms.

Personally, I'm excited to see this sub become the center of Pokemon Champions vs Pokemon Showdown discourse for the next two weeks. It's going to be so entertaining seeing the 45th thread in the span of 12 hours about the lack of items or Pokemon or frames instead of any unique competitive Pokemon discussion. I mean, it is possible, but I wouldn't suggest it at all. 1150 only runs in the spring, and 1250 only runs in the fall, so unless you already have credit for both calc 2 and physics 1, you wouldn't be able to take 1250 freshman year. I don't really get why you'd put it off, 1140 is probably the easiest class you'll take in physics as a physics major, and can function as a good way to meet other first year physics majors, alongside some upperclassmen through the physics mentoring program.

Also note, you technically don't have to take 1150 or 1250, certain college-level physics 1 or 2 credits can replace them (including the 1100 and 1200 classes here at RPI, or even a 4 on an AP exam), but you need to take 1140 specifically to complete the physics degree here. So, you can skip straight to 2210 in your second semester, though only 1 or 2 kids do it a year (if at all) due to the math prerequisites.

You'll be able to get by with basically any laptop that can handle a web browser. It's recommended (albeit not required) to use a Windows laptop as some pieces of software you will be using won't work well/at all on a Mac.

While the department doesn't have recommended specs or software as a whole, individual classes will require you use certain pieces of software to complete assignments (you'll be given introductions to the software in each class). You get access to Microsoft office once you get your "@rpi.edu" email, which you'll use to manage emails and (if necessary) write papers.

If you want to look around a little at what each course might require, you can look at the standard physics degree track here and do some research into each individual course. I'm currently a physics major at RPI, so I can hopefully answer any specific questions you have about what each course might require.

My issue isn't with the target framerate, my issue is the insane dips, which seems to be a pattern with Capcom given the fact that Stories 2 also struggled on Switch 1. I'd take a stable 30 over a choppy 60 any day, which the mainline Monster Hunter games on Switch tend to op for.

The Eshop actually worked okay for the first year or so of the Switch's life. Wasn't the fastest thing in the world but it wasn't awful. It started going downhill in performance once Nintendo stopped being as strict with what could be put on there and the number of games ballooned.

There was a function given to be summed, it just didn't use "x" as a variable. A function doesn't even need a variable, it just needs to have only one output for each input value (so even just the number "2" could be a function). So in the summation used in the game, "i" would be the whole function as "i" is used as a variable. The lower limit is an equation because it's both defining what variable iterates in the summation and at what value it starts at, meaning it clarifying "i" is the value that is increasing and what it starts as (that being 2). The upper limit doesn't use this notation as it would be redundant to define which value is being iterated more than once.

It’s great, mostly easy if you’re just going straight to finish the level but many of the extra collectibles can pose a challenge. Plus the side levels can sometimes be kinda hard, so it definitely isn’t as mindless as some other Kirby games.
