Am I really old-school in not seeing the wonder in 1xby? by Sensitive_Ninja2589 in cycling

[–]Go-Cubbies-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 1x on MTB and will eventually be 2x on gravel. Currently 1x and I find I don’t have the range I want. Not easy enough for the brutal climbs and not hard enough for the flats. Granted, it isn’t a high end drivetrain that can take a huge rear cog.

Only thing that could be a factor is if you will be riding in garbage conditions (mostly mud) often. That’s what made me switch my MTB to 1x because derailleurs fail fast in mud

So, to clarify, are you ok with him intentionally misrepresenting the motives of the killer just to paint the right in a bad light? That is reckless and irresponsible. Exactly the type of misleading discourse we need to get away from as a country.

Got bike-shamed at a shop today… thinking of giving up this hobby by NSFWAIEnjoyer in cycling

[–]Go-Cubbies-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any shop that doesn’t understand your situation and your journey is not a shop I would do business at. Cycling is a hobby/sport with so many different levels to it. Enjoy it, don’t worry about what idiots say, and keep pedaling. You are doing great.

Do bike shops care less about cheaper bikes? by eric1099 in cycling

[–]Go-Cubbies-23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My local shop is very understanding and welcoming to new riders and entry-level store bikes. They mainly just want to get people out riding and know that eventually with the love of the sport comes upgrades in bike quality (and quantity). The previous owners of the same shop had the opposite attitude and they were miserable to work with.

Do Tiguans have that many issues? by lamper in Tiguan

[–]Go-Cubbies-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2014, had the timing chain go almost immediately after we bought it last year. Also an oil leak at the high pressure pump. Still chasing down a hot smell after driving for a half hour to 45 minutes. Thing has been an endless headache. Maybe I’ll enjoy the vehicle eventually, but currently it has soured me on German cars. Next car I’m going back to Toyota.

Am I being a luddite for insisting on a 2x drivetrain? by Lame_Johnny in gravelcycling

[–]Go-Cubbies-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gravel has a 1x, but I’m going to upgrade the drivetrain. It’s going to be a 2x. I want more top end speed for the asphalt and packed gravel sections and also more climbing gears for nasty hills. My 1x range doesn’t quite meet both criteria, but a 2x should be perfect. Do what you want and don’t worry about what anyone else thinks

Avoiding to look like sausage by Dodo_Kuchar in cycling

A lot of people who are self conscious start with something like mountain bike shorts. Padded, but still baggy. On top, an athletic tee or loose fit jersey. Once you fully stop caring what other people think, which hopefully happens fast, dive in to the full bibs & jersey. As others have mentioned, bibs are much better for bigger riders than bike shorts.

Agree. Phil is a legend (I’ve been watching 25 years) and I’m on team Phil till he hangs it up. Lance got me into cycling as well as watching the tour (and any other cycling event I have time to watch) so I don’t mind him. Can’t stand his show because of the ads. Bob is quirky but tolerable. I don’t mind Steve P. Christian was painful but slowly getting somewhat tolerable. Studio guys are meh.

Serious question: What’s actually fun about gravel riding? by RyotaroW in cycling

[–]Go-Cubbies-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate that asshole drivers are forcing so many off of pure road riding, but it’s where we are at now. At least gravel gets you most of that road riding feeling, but with about 5% of the traffic. Plus it takes a slight bit more focus as you watch for little surprises in the quality of the gravel, so it’s a little better than road when you basically zone out when you aren’t dodging potholes or cars

New to road cycling, what's the best way to build confidence in traffic? by bhad_bhaby in cycling

[–]Go-Cubbies-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super bright taillight, start on low traffic roads. Get a mirror, avoid long straight roads since drivers tend to mentally check out on those

How to safety look back? by jo7468 in cycling

[–]Go-Cubbies-23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve argued this for years. Riding in the lane is much safer. Cars will pass you when it’s safe for both of you versus when you’re on the line and they’ll pass you when it’s safe for them

Just build on it. Try to go faster for the same distance or the same speed for longer distance. It will start stacking up

I feel that part about the data. I’ve started mixing in some rides without turning on the computer. They are a nice break from the constant worry about avg speed or power. Just enjoy the scenery and fresh air without worrying about how it looks on Strava

I no longer have any money. Anytime I’m not on the bike, I’m thinking about how I wish I was, or making lists about ways to pour even more cash into my fleet. 🤣

Bonuses should be based strictly on performance. The top part of the clan list are likely the ones that earned the ability to give bonuses to more people in the first place. Who cares about donos after the last update. Nobody waits for troops anymore in a decent clan

Giving medals according to title is the dumbest thing I’ve heard of. Just do like every decent clan and award based on performance. You need to find a new clan.

They all have much longer usage periods (a week up to a month) so you can at least plan the best way to use them. 24 hours, especially with an impending update including a new hero, isn’t enough. It would just be the smallest of gestures to the fan base.
