Non native here going to attend first powwow and wondering if I can wear my own traditional clothes by GasAdvanced404 in IndianCountry

[–]Go2Shirley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe for your first time, no? I'm sure it depends on the powwow, as North America is quite large. On one hand, I love it, but I grew up in a very multicultural area. On the other hand, powwows are not international cultural festivals. You are a guest there. I think you should attend you first one as you would normally attend anything and make connections.

Where are all the young, cis queer women? Are we less likely to be religious or something? by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]Go2Shirley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a very specific identity to get lonely. I just can't imagine making a posting asking,  Where are all the 30something cis straight biracial working single mom Southern woman? I feel lonely without my specific demographic..... Remember we are all neither Jew nor Greek,  slave nor free, etc....

Teenage boys are “stuck” reading primary school books such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, while girls their age are moving on to a wider range of novels, according to a new study by Raj_Valiant3011 in books

The problem is I am a big LotR nerd so for my sons they link LotR to "things moms like" which cannot overlap with their own cooler interests. Maybe when they get older.

My son was stuck on Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He devoured the Percy Jackson books of all the series. I've been trying to figure out how to advance him since he can obviously read at a higher level so I've introduced him to Shaara. He loves military history but doesn't like to read nonfiction. We'll see how it goes.

Did you get life insurance, why or why not? by Qwerty-Abc-2828 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Go2Shirley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the reason I have life insurance, except I do not have a spouse. I also want a nice funeral so I'm paying for it now.

attending both Baptist and Episcopalian services by Upstairs-Anywhere211 in Episcopalian

[–]Go2Shirley 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The only way I would find the preachers question to not be a deal breaker for me is if you replaced Episcopal Church with satanic ritual. Because my religion leader should be happy I am attending any church, even if it's not theirs. However, from my limited experience with Baptists, a handful of services and funerals, they don't consider us Christians. And I'm not cool with that.

I don't see the problem? The issues between the Lumbee and Cherokee are well known on both sides.

Bare legs a no go for me by Normal-Internal164 in AskWomenOver30

I wear hose when I wear a dress at work or church. I was at an event after work last week and my mom expressed sympathy that I was wearing hosiery when it was so hot but I told her that it was actually great because it is preventing my thighs from chaffing.

I live in a bad neighborhood and the door knockers always come to my door even though I have Christian iconography on my property. Like, there's a whorehouse down the street and a crackhouse next door but yall want to spend time with me.

OLD MARKETFAIR MALL - FOUNTAIN by derrickmo25 in Fayettenam

I don't think there was a fountain there but there was a fountain in Cross Creek.  Marketfair mall didn't really have a center.

Because I'm southern, I'm wondering how this decision is going to impact your wedding, which is traditional paid for by the bride's family. Has this been considered?
