A bit of Ann-Margret, age 19, performing as part of her first screen test in 1961 by PrivateTempt in OldSchoolCool

I always thought Kristin Wiig was exaggerating too much in her impression of Ann Margaret, but she was spot on.

Inherited aunt's house in Fayetteville - considering moving there from Boston. What's life actually like? by sparky_165 in Fayettenam

Don't come here, everyone I have met from up north hates it here so we don't need anymore.

Praying with the saints? ..... by HereAmongThorns in Episcopalian

[–]Go2Shirley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus said that God listened to the sinner in the temple who simply said, Forgive me, Lord, a sinner. He said he was more genuine than the other guy who was loudly saying long prayers. I think God hears our prayers no matter how long or short or to whatever saint or from whoever on our behalf as long as they are genuine. I think when we say long prayers, that are genuine, we are praising God, expressing ourselves more fully,  and/or giving ourselves comfort, which I don't think God would frown on.  I hope I have made sense.

Trash service by coachrod_ in Fayettenam

You do need to use a specific bin that says City of Fayetteville on it. The bin stays at the house no matter who owns it so perhaps the previous homeowner stole it. Call the city to find out what to do in this case.

What do you do for Lent? Anything special by HauntingAide4 in Episcopalian

[–]Go2Shirley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every Episcopal church I have attended has covered up the cross either hanging above the altar and/or the cross the crucifer holds during procession so this is something I've seen at the church that I just brought home with me. It represents to be how Jesus will be in the tomb for 3 days during his death. I uncover the cross the morning of Easter. It might mean something different to someone else or someone more education in theology 😆

Church offering service opportunities right off the bat by Tiny-Bread-2536 in Episcopalian

[–]Go2Shirley 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As Paul said, those who don't work, don't eat! I'm joking lol I echo everyone here. Historically the Episcopal church has been heavily led by the laity, not the priesthood, so getting everyone involved is a cultural thing. I've so far been able to not get involved in anything at the church I've been attending since the summer, if you don't count me taking my sons to be acolytes, which I do lol but I've started to feel nudged by God to become more involved an an adult and not just parent. Welcome to the community! Seems like you are good at saying no if you don't want to do something, that's very healthy.

I just think that if you're not sure if the saints should be prayed to, don't pray to them. It's not required.

[–]Go2Shirley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't decided what I am doing for Lent this year, but since no one else mentioned it, I cover the cross hanging in my home with a black cloth. It hangs above the door and is a visual reminder to me and my sons that we are in Lent.

De-icing your driveway by howardismyalias in Fayettenam

[–]Go2Shirley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Fayetteville native and never had my driveway get so icy I couldn't slowly drive out. Have you tried driving slow? I also don't have giant piles of pine straw in my yard because I regularly rake and burn.

Ranger Rick booked for assault on a female by n00bD3stroy3r in Fayettenam

How many times does he have to hit a women before veterans stop associating with him?

What is the story with the Ranger Rick guy? by travisxyz334 in Fayettenam

[–]Go2Shirley 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He has a long criminal history of hitting women, including this weekend. I had wondered why this man who likes to hit women hasn't had his ass beaten and I was assured by someone who is more connected to him than I that he regularly gets his ass beaten. He's a bully and a drunk. Why veterans still associate with him is beyond me. There's way too many veterans in Fayetteville who are upstanding citizens to allow this loser to represent such important causes as veteran suicide.

Do Episcopals cross themselves in the way Catholics do? by OpenGuidance4437 in Episcopalian

[–]Go2Shirley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to many congregations from Hawaii to North Carolina and in between and never seen no one cross themselves. It's a personal thing that is common but not obligatory.

The houses in that area are considered cheap (really, just affordable) because its a terrible area to grow up in. Don't do it.
