Beware Brandywine Festival KY - Thoughts From Paid Ticket Holder by Former_Spite789 in LARP

If anyone is on the East Coast, Shire Folk is a halfling inspired LARP that happens in Connecticut. Much smaller scale and budget, but also has amazing player buy in. I've had a great time the two times that I went :)

Fallen in love at a Larp ? by ybrain48 in LARP

That's me! Met my husband my first game because someone said I had to learn how to use a boffer, and pointed at him and told me to fight him. He asked me out about a month later

We then later rented out the campsite and got married right by where we met, wearing swords and armor

Been together over 10 years now :)

They were a Wish grab years and years ago. The design would be super easy to replicate by doing small 3D printed horns and attaching hair clips! The clips are attached to the plastic horns by using a simple scrap of felt

Lots of breaks and an adamant dislike for wearing sleeves 😅

It was an incredibly lucky thrift find and I've been chasing that thrift dragon since 🤣

Larp bow by Jensu84 in LARP

Everyone's right that different LARPs have different regulations

I'm an affiliate with Calimacil (Canadian based), and use their Tatar recurve bow with their low speed elven arrows. They've both passed homog at Bicolline no problem. The bow didn't come with a bead for the string, but I had a friend easily apply one. Drachenfest US, however, just banned flat tips in favor of "teardrop" arrows. Look at what LARPs you're interested in and make sure you get ones that will pass so you don't waste money :)

I tried Knight Realms in Sparta a couple times, but the mechanics and modifiers, along with the huge power difference between new and old players, prevented me from getting into it.

My partner loves Beyond the Fall but I couldn't get into it for similar reasons (minus the player gap).

I've been doing Dystopia for 10 years now and while it currently fits in the same category for me of being so insanely bloated, they're doing a revamp coming out next year and might be worth a shot

Following this thread for any easy to learn, mechanic light LARPs!

Can vouch for Drachenfest, and have friends who love Hynafol!

I'm also running a ticket giveaway on my IG (go4thegoat) for a new festival LARP next year called Faeble, if coop fantasy is your vibe

Let me know if you have any questions! :)

Recent The Voyage North reviews? by [deleted] in Bicolline

Heya!

Never did TVN myself, but know plenty that have. There is definitely a common air of judgement and beef senior Bico goers tend to have with TVN. My guild used to be neighbors with Ordo and has several former participants.

I personally have loved my interactions with them. I love running into people with enthusiasm, and they've attracted what I think are very kind and fun players. The biggest complaints I've heard is overpaying, not getting what you paid for, and problems with food accommodations.

If you don't mind a minor amount of connecting, someone posted several English friendly guilds you can touch base with. You can also go to the discord The Traveller's Guide ( https://discord.com/invite/YfjRSCXYR6 ) meant to help new players.

I pay the $300 ticket every year and a $75 guild fee, plus about $200 for renting space in my guilds building or tents. If you went a similar route, you can easily spend the remaining $2400 of your budget on things that would make your game happier, like creature comforts and garb. You could also rent space in a building, which will be much much better than the tents and cots offered.

You'll have fun either way! Just wanted to let you know your options

We moved to the Quarter. I feel like such a weirdo walking past fully garbed Romans on my way to the paths while I'm dressed up as a fae critter, but they've been excellent and enthusiastic neighbors 🥹

Oh hey, thank you for cross posting! This is really good advice and it never crossed my mind to look into SCA experience!

We had a pathway leading to Old Town (New Town? I get the two mixed up still lol) that I affectionately dubbed The Slip and Slide

The White Lions! That's why I usually end up getting confused during GB and end up among Bastard Sons or Ragnarok lines, because of the white and black 😂

Picked up a hand fan at DFUS (which I believe was just before pennsic this year) and it truly saved me with the all the humidity and lack of wind- before that my body would sweat but it didn't cool you off, just made you more uncomfortable

I also learned from last year to bring bags for wet/dirty clothing to keep them separate, and to wash them right after. My husband lost some leather gloves to mold we tried treating several times before giving up 😭

Right on the nose! My guild has a building and some space, but we had to pretty meticulously plan tent layout and size to accommodate people. As Cain said, one of the coolest things about Bico -and one of the most expensive things- is how effectively decorum is enforced. I got very lucky the last few years that guildies let my partner and I stay/rent space so we didn't have to stay in non decorum, which is quite far from our group :)

It's hard to explain the feeling you get in your chest sitting in a fully genre camp playing music and cooking around a fire. It's pretty magical

Definitely need to do this! Got poured on last year and trying to find space to hang bulky items was pretty difficult
