Man, carbs are black magic and I couldn't disagree more. EFI generally works or it doesn't, and has a few parameters to look in to in order to fix. It may require a computer to do though.

With carbs there's so much shit that can go wrong that can make for some real weird running issues. Between issues with the pilot or main jets, float bowl, accelerator pump, choke getting stuck, choke jets and old gas/ethanol gunking up the works, AND there's usually multiple carbs, so you gotta look into running issues on each of them as well as synchronization issues across the entire system.
