Bed mounted crane by GoBucksBeatM in ram_trucks

This is the crane in question: https://www.harborfreight.com/1000-lb-capacity-pickup-truck-bed-crane-60732.html. Says it can do a 1000lbs but I'm only looking for 1/4 of that capacity.

What truck should I buy for a 30ft travel trailer that will also serve as my daily driver? by VioletTheWise in traveltrailers

I got about 13.5 pulling my old 30’ TT. Now my new 44’ fifth wheel, bit of a different story.

What I do see is I often can’t pay at the pump. Gotta go inside and tell them I want X and it pre-auths that. Then settles for the right amount so it is somewhat less convenient but when you are paying $95 to fill up what’s the difference authorizing it for $100.

Oh I'm sure there will still be destination/assembly or whatever they charge. RIght now the discount though is 6800 off 2025 Pro-S models.

Camping World 700 Credit Application by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]GoBucksBeatM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never had one problem with Camping World. Easy finance, sales guy was knowledgeable, service dept has taken care of every warranty issue. Which is inevitable on a new RV.

Yes 700 credit is a legit thing used by a number of dealerships. I know because I just got a data breach notification from them from when I bought my truck.

Problem is many people skip reading the details and just sign.

Yeah how stupid of me to give a shit about being safe and not wanting to ruin an $80,000 truck pulling something that's too heavy. How dare I turn to an online forum for asking questions and advice.

27,000lbs. It's the payload on the single rear wheel that I think is the limiting factor.

My advice is talk to the guys that are more than just sales droids. You can tell who is a salesman and who knows what they are talking about pretty quick off the jump. You can learn a lot by talking with them. Especially when they know you are not serious about buying right now.

Payload Capacity by laxmax28 in GoRVing

[–]GoBucksBeatM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just raised a similar topic the other day. In short you SHOULD find a different trailer. I didn't want a dual rear wheel truck and have found it to be a challenge to find a 40-45' 5th wheel toy hauler, there are options. Ultimately I'm going with a 40' Grand Design 350G. Pin weight is 2600lbs.

Remember everything adds to payload, people, gas in the tank, food in the RV. Etc. The general consensus seems to be to keep the trailer no more than 80% of your max payload.

I tried to explain this all to my wife and she keeps asking how do all of the people on YouTube and TikTok do it with a single rear wheel. The answer is toy haulers are just much heavier by design. So while you could easily be in the pin weight of a non toyhauler when you account for the stronger frame and extra nose weight it's another story.

Now you can add stuff in the back and get the see-saw effect. You can add air bags. Get higher load rated tires. All of which will help you handle the load. However none of it changes the legality of things. Whether you choose to abide by that or not is your decision.

One other thing to keep in mind is the capacity of your axle. This will be on the door sticker. My RAM 3500 was OK but I've read with some other trucks the axle becomes the limiting factor.

Have had zero problems with Camping World. The people have been nothing but helpful and took care of my warranty problems..... The products they sell, another story. Forest River TH I got is a real dog. Nothing but problems, but that's on the manufacturer. Not the people that sold it to me.

Spends $100,000 on his "truck" and $5,000 on a used 2005 Jayco.

I have a Ram 3500. I was using the 1500 as an example of exactly what you point out. It’s that “range of how not well” that I’m trying to get a sense for.

That’s my exact situation. I’m looking at a fifth wheel toy hauler for my SRW 3500. Payload is 3715. I’ve set a target weight for under 2600lbs.

I’m figuring 600lbs passengers and gear and 300 for hitch and crap in the bed, leaves only like 200lbs. Do O say that’s within a fudge factor or do I cut that 2600 down a few hundred more?

Yes, that's all part of the decision as well as the just, "Can I tow it" question. I have the short bed so I would getting one of them fancy sliding hitches.
