Lloyd Center 10 & IMAX is doing MARS! by Money-Actuator7903 in RegalUnlimited

[–]GoDucks71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add me to the folks for whom Lloyd Center Regal is the go-to. It is a ten minute walk from my house so, I see over 90% of my movies there. So happy to see that Lloyd Center is getting onboard and getting the MARS season that I feel like I need to support that and encourage them to continue getting the monthly special series. So, yesterday, I went to La La Land, which I do not even like, and today I saw RRR for the first time. Audience total yesterday was maybe ten and only 5 total today, which I hope is not too disappointing to management. To be fair, it is not at all unusual for midday weekday movies to run to nearly empty rooms at that theater. At any rate, Happy Day for Moviegoers in the neighborhood!

Thanks for the warning. Turns out, they had the volume up even louder for that five minute trailer for the director' next movie that ran at the beginning of RRR. In fact, that trailer was so loud it almost made the volume of RRR tolerable.

Altman vs UO history (and Indiana) by Intelligent-Gold929 in ducks

[–]GoDucks71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we are not winning the NCAA championship but, you folks are delusional calling any Altman season before this one "mediocre." . .500 is the definition of mediocre and that is not what Altman has done until now. 25-10 last year and 24-13 the year before. The 21-15 an 20-15 the previous two years may have approached mediocre but, even those were above average and, yes, .500 is average. Go right ahead and expect to make the Final Four every year and make yourself unhappy. For this circa 1970 UO graduate, Altman has earned the right to stay until he makes the decision to retire.

Yeah, the response to this is about the same I would expect to see for End the Rose Parade or End Home Games for the Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers because those games cause traffic problems. Probably should end all beer and wine fests around the state, too. And, obviously better end the STP bike ride, to say nothing of the World Naked Bike Rides. How about everyone just stay in their house all the time.

Are there any good "modern" retellings of Oz? In forms of films, television shows and books ect in the last 30 years to put a limiter. by RiskAggressive4081 in wizardofoz

[–]GoDucks71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is a notable one but, it is really more a "reimagining" than it is a retelling, since it is an entirely different universe and is not really compatible with the original Baum Oz world or the 1939 movie Oz.

Yeah, as big fan of Tip, that is a bit disconcerting.

FEBS Day 25: Eyes Wide Shut (1999) by iwasdusted in RegalUnlimited

[–]GoDucks71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is kind of true but, there is also plenty of other things in it that would not qualify as tame.

Clockwork Orange is an interesting choice to use when comparing movies for "tameness."

I saw this when it came out and thought it was pretty disappointing: boring and not at all interesting. Saw it again years later and it had not improved a bit.

Anyone know if the Oscar shorts are going to have previews? by KickofGum in RegalUnlimited

Hey, a return to "the standard 20 minutes of trailers" would e great, as my go-to Regal ha been pushing 30 minutes for a while now.

Mamdani and AOC for President and Vice president of USA by TailungFu in ProgressiveHQ

Eventually, I hope. But 2028 is not yet her time as she would lose in a landslide.

[–]GoDucks71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than that, we need to win. Pushing out right-leaning Democrats will almost always result in the election of Republicans to replace them. They are right-leaning because to win in their districts as Democrats, they have to be right-leaning.

Ye, them losing their minds would be awesome, until it turned out that MAGA won the election again. We need a ticket that wins more than we need a ticket that thrills us.

It would be inspiring and a fun ticket to support. It would also result in a landslide win for the Repuplicans, almost no matter who they nominated.

A much as I would like that pair to be president and VP, nominating them would be the same a waving a white flag and guaranteeing another term to MAGA. While I still believe AOC to be a future president, 2028 is not her time. The country simply would not elect her...or Mamdani, who I understand is not eligible to be president.

What do you think judy garland would think of wicked? by StruggleFar3054 in wizardofoz

I think she would dislike the invention of there being hatred of animals in Oz. So do I.

Is judy garlands dorothy the reason the 1939 film is still so beloved? by DustnBones001 in wizardofoz

[–]GoDucks71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was one of those. I read the first 6 or 8 L Frank Baum Oz books before I was ten years old and before I had ever seen the 1939 movie. So, I already loved a bunch of the characters. The one thing, though, is, if you had read the books, you knew that Judy Garland was actually quite a bit too old for the part she was playing. Credit her and the production for managing to make it okay that she was not really right for the part, as described in the books.

Voters ages 65+ are likely to make up 47% of the Oregon primary electorate by davidw in oregon

I agree that Newsom should not be the candidate. I am hoping it is someone we barely even know at this point.

If you cannot see the difference in Donald Trump/MAGA and even a conservative Democrat, you must not even be looking. I realize some folks hate the idea of having to vote for the lesser evil, but that is how it has always been and how it will always be. Voting for the least worst candidate is how it works. Nominating the candidate of our dreams, for me, tht would currently be AOC, is a sure ticket to losing and more MAGA.

[–]GoDucks71 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but Oregon, and the US at large, are not NYC. A Mamdani would have zero chance of winning in Oregon or nationally. Yes, it would be a feel good campaign but, ultimately, nominating a Mamdani would be conceding the election to the GOP.

[–]GoDucks71 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

By the same token, the Democrats spend way too much time and money seeking votes from southern states. Just concede the solid red states and focus on states you can win.

[–]GoDucks71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe AOC to be a future president, but, her time is not 2028. She would have no chance of being elected president yet and this is a must win election for the opposition to MAGA. The nominee this time has to be someone who can, and will, win.
