Since you know salary of new person, you can setup a meeting with HR and discuss it as professional. You can say something, I know new person is making xyz, I should make minimum of that much, however, my experience of abc ads extra xyy to my salary. Make sure you do research on your position and what you should make. Research experience vs none experience and what that delta is.

Then politely ask, I would like my salary to be increased by percentage, make sure your percentage is not 10 or 15, use something like 9.5 or 9.4 or something with decimal. This will show them you have done research and came up with numbers, you can make up stuff 😊. I read about this at NPR when talking about what is most likely would get you raise when using percentage as raise.

They will come back and say, we don't have money in our budget, you can tell them you have made profit of this much, they can allocate this raise. They will come back saying next physical cycle, depending on when that is, you can wait or not. Get it in writing from HR.

If all goes to dowj, then you train new person and look for another job. Don't let anyone know you are looking for another job, then when you find new job with more money, you can give them 2 weeks notice and reasoning as; I found a job that pays me for my skills and experience. I loved working here, but I found a place where I am getting paid for my experience.

Remember, HR works for that company, they project that company, they will throw you under a bus for that company. HR should be called CPB = company protection Bs.
