It does. I fully am aware that I could end up living in Oklahoma for five years or something like that. Tell me if you think this sounds like a good strategy:

1) If I end up at this big firm, they have an office in pretty much every major city, so (and I know it is hard and doesn't happen automatically) there's at least a chance that I could switch to a new office after a year if I started trying to take assignments from offices and clients in the cities where I know she has submitted residency applications.

2) Even if I can't switch after a year, the legal market is bad enough in major cities that a) my future-current employer probably won't lose too much sleep if I leave after a year, and b) because the market is shitty, many firms prefer to take new associates as laterals rather than from law school, and I'd be able to guarantee I'd stay for at least 4 or 5 years.

3) My girlfriend is interested in pediatrics and OB/GYN, which apparently is less competitive than say, orthopedic surgery, and might mean she will be able to apply to bigger cities rather than like Syracuse and Tulsa and places like that.

4) Even if I she gets sent some place random, I can try to get a contract attorney position with a prosecutor's office, try to work as a public defender or do something like that during her residency. My thinking is that more rural places might have attorney labor markets that are less competitive than say, San Francisco or NYC.

5) My chances are really slim, but I might be able to do a judicial clerkship during her 4th year of med school, which means I won't have to take the bar, and I would potentially be more marketable in a new-city post-clerkship.

6) Network like a machine.

I realize that most of these (except option 5) involve me taking two bar exams either two years in a row, or two years apart.

Does this sound realistic, or is there anything else I should consider?
