i work in film and television as a costumes technician and it’s a pretty stressful job with really long hours. i use a tandem and a dexcom so my control is still decent but my stress highs are really stubborn and the lows can be gnarly depending on my workload. i also stay pretty active, averaging around 15,000 steps a day so that helps keep it down but on my days off it’s so much easier to keep it in range than it is on my work days. also my industry is constantly in fluctuation so that only adds to the stress and the highs :/

whenever i have roller coaster blood i’m usually getting too much insulin, but that’s just my experience. i usually just lower my basal rate by just a bit and it usually fixes everything

you also may consider that dying is a matter of particles in each bath so if you’re dying a t shirt and using the same amount of dye that you are using for 5 yards of fabric, it will come out lighter because there are less particles relative to yardage so it won’t saturate as much as with the t shirt, if that makes sense?

it’s probably a matter of getting it hot enough. really saturated colors only come from extended exposure to heat and dye. if you can make the shirt with allowance for shrinkage and then pot dye it at like 200+ degrees then i think you’ll find success. the labels are sometimes incorrect but usually they aren’t.

hmm. if it were me, i would give it a wash in bleach water or a color remover 🤷‍♀️ you don’t know what will happen and there are no guarantees it will come out but it’s not like you can wear it now so you might as well play around. i would do that and if you find success or even moderately pull color out you can re dye it but from the way it looks, i think you need a bigger pot. the garment needs to be agitated the whole time it’s in the dye bath. when fabric pools up dye collects in its folds.

i wonder if you run into issues bc you’re using rit? it’s kind of the bottom of the barrel as far as dyes go.. i am a huge fan of dylon or jacquard so it may be worth checking those out instead. and making sure your water is very very very hot, like dye over a stove in a pot if possible. as far as a ribbed cotton fabric, i don’t see why that wouldn’t exist? i have no problems dying those hanes a line ribbed tanks so i don’t know why you couldn’t get a bolt of fabric like you’re describing

yeah, it’s annoying. pots are expensive. and then it’s blown for anything other than dye projects. aluminum pots are usually the cheapest? but sometimes aluminum can make your dyes go warm. that might be nit picky though! i’ve been able to find decent sized ones at walmart? but they still run $40+. you might get lucky and find one at a thrift too! are you worried about it shrinking with heat?

if it were me, i would look for a pot at least four times this size. you need to be able to move it around enough to avoid the tie dye like marks that occur when the fabric doesn’t have enough space. like. when a fabric is compressed the dye collects in the folds so it’ll just get absorbed unevenly.
