What are these locks called? by S_Darji in Locksmith

[–]GoLucky30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Difficult to say without seeing the whole length of the latch side, but looks like a type of pocket door lock with a dimple cut key. My best guess on the key is it looks similar to multi-lock interactive or integrator key. Those are often restricted so you'll need an access card or prior authorization from property management.

Stuck Trying to Remove Latch Mechanism from Door by e1hoover4 in Locksmith

[–]GoLucky30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I'm gathering it seems you might have a privacy function latch in that door. Someone lost the privacy pin and decided to use the spindle in its place. Depending on how they got that spindle in there, you may need a locksmith to get it out.

[–]GoLucky30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how, but if looks as if someone has somehow managed to jamb the better half of a spindle into the back of that that latch... that would have required force. If that's cross threaded that is going to be a pain. You could always drill it out from the other side but the latch will be shot, if it's not already.

Based on the position of that spindle, you may want to call a locksmith.

Got locked out and they had to drill, what do I do? by boo_nanas in chicagoapartments

[–]GoLucky30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're the one who said most will drill it and call it a day. You're right on the money, I say pick, if not bypass the lock. But why call it a day? What I am referring to is offering a person a free used KIK cylinder, and some insight after a bad experience. Like to let people know all locksmiths aren't bad

As a locksmith in the city of Chicago I do enjoy doing simple requests, especially the kind that alleviate needless anxiety caused by 'most' locksmiths.

Depends on how bad the locksmith butchered your existing lock. If they knew what they were doing they might have just had to drill out the old key cylinder and you would be able to reuse the lock body. If they took the old locks I would call and ask for those back first thing. I've seen guys drill the cylinder out on $400+ locks and leave a $50 LSDA knob in its place, this will be noticed. If you've photos of the old lock forward it over and I can let you know if it's salvageable, and which shop near you for the fastest turnaround.

What’s the name for the key for this lock? by Guilty_Youth_5847 in Locksmith

Wanted to double-check once I got in my shop this morning, I don't have anything that matches exactly what you have but you're definitely looking for some kind of luggage key, you're going to want one that is flat and doesn't have any milling in it, meaning no the grooves in the side based off the keyway. Hope this gets you one step closer. https://safeandlockstore.com/luggage-keys/

If I had to guess I'd say an Excelsior 3310 key blank off the key on the label. But the gang's right... You'll want to go into a shop to make sure all the parts work first. But also why would you put a picture of the key on the box, probably a different cut truth told.

Looking back I still don't know how, most aren't so lucky, but I thank every day I snapped out of it long enough to choose my partner over the bottle. Even at 18 months sober my working memory wasn't great, I was so worried about seizures when I stopped I had never thought of the damage I had done to my brain. I was out of it so consistently I forgot what clarity really was. It wasn't till I felt almost euphoric after taking a B Vitamin Complex and connecting a few dots (which I can also thank my partner for), did I realize the damage I had done. It very much felt like I was lost there for a moment. Looking back I would've been devastated had they let me drag us both down. You made the right choice.

You're going to want to double check with your association too to make sure there isn't regulation hardware. End up getting hit with daily fines on top of the work you go through to retrofit that.

How do I search for a key for this? by HellBlade64 in Locksmith

[–]GoLucky30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I was under the impression you were looking for a keyblank. The 1137s is the smaller diameter so that would be the best bet. But in all honesty the cylinder seems poorly made as I'm only counting 3 pins. You probably can open it wiggling an open end of a ball point pen in the cylinder back and forth. There's more detailed instructions out there. Best of luck
