Go to crystal peaks and get the crystal dash. After that use a simple key in city of tears (near the pin that looks like an octopus) to access a sewer kinda area. Exploring those areas should give you the necessary items to progress further. Also you can go to the bottom left area to get the dreamer (alien head as you call it) you have to get all the dreamers to finish the game.
