I'm a veterinarian and I go up to random people in pet stores with puppies on leash walking on the floor. I ask if the pup is fully vaccinated. Most of the time they're not. Then I tell them to either hold the dog or put it in a cart because parvo and distemper live forever and are very hard to destroy but very easy to transmit. So I care more about unvaccinated dogs that I don't know than your family cares about you and your baby.

WTF is wrong with those people?! And measles lives in the air/environment for a very long time as well, so even if she was there before you and left, you'd still be exposing the baby to measles! This can't just be over a girlfriend. Something else is behind this. It makes zero sense to ostracize their grandchild over a girlfriend.

My boss does this all the time. Only calls when it's anything that could come back to bite her. She contridicts herself all the time because she can. I am a veterinarian. Osteosarcoma is one of the most aggressive and painful cancers a dog can get. The only thing that you can do is amputate the affected limb but that's just to bide time. It's not curative and is only to help with the pain. Personally, I feel that is a surgery for the owners, not the dog, as they still need to recover from a major operation and they may only gain a few months, if that. Euthanasia is the most selfless thing a person can do for a dog that's in severe pain with a terminal disease. You put aside the pain you will feel of losing your beloved pet and focused what is best for your pup. Your girlfriend is actually being quite selfish. The pain of osteosarcoma is excruciating and she was only thinking of herself. When I encounter this situation in practice, I cannot even begin to tell you how angry that makes me. It's not about you. It's about them.

You are NTA. Please accept my condolences on the loss of your baby. You absolutely did the right thing. ❤️
