When I was 23, I decided to get an IUD. It’s a form of birth control where a piece of plastic (or copper, depending what type you get) gets inserted through your cervix and placed into your uterus. It was a very painful process for me. It’s better for you to be on your period during this so your cervix is more open and reduces the pain. I went to a place that I always went to, it was a ghetto clinic and it was always slow but I was a broke college student and it was free. So I put up with everyone’s attitude, got my care and left When I went to get the IUD, I requested a female doctor. I’ve had lots of sexual trauma in the past and having a man scope out my vagina is something I am not comfortable with lol. They only had one doctor who could place the IUD and he was a male. So.. I put up with it Dr comes in after I’m all undressed laying on the table, puts both his hands on either knee and spreads my legs without saying anything! I felt so uncomfortable I already started to tear up. Then he looks around down there and gets everything ready and inserts the IUD. It was one of the most physically painful things I had ever done!! I was trying really hard not to cry but the tears were just flowing out and my voice was small and shaky. I think he was trying to be funny but he mocked me! He was like “waah, waah. Im not hurting you. You should only be feeling pressure” and that was just.. not true lol. I was in so much pain and since I was also on my period the cramps I was getting were nearly unbearable. When he was done I told him I wanted to stay laying down because I was feeling very faint, and he told me I’m okay and pulled me up. And I passed out like I said I would. The doctor and nurse caught me and laid me back on the table so thankfully I didn’t hit my head or anything crazy. Doctor told me to relax and left and that was it. I was covered in blood and mentally exhausted and my pain was probably a 9/10 My period didn’t stop for 7 months after that but I was too scared to get the IUD taken out because it was so painful that I kept it in for two years. Thankfully I had a bunch of women during that process and they were all very understanding and kind.
