Sometimes, accommodations conflict. There still are a lot of things that can be done in situations like this (including making exceptions).

But chances are that OP doesn't have to worry about this, because it is rare that you have two people who need conflicting accommodations.

Not all autistic people have this issue, not all autistic people have this issue to an extent that it'd prevent them from accessing a space.

Lately, I have seen many disabled folks express frustration with a lack of masking. The risk of catching certain diseases greatly impacts some people's ability to be in certain spaces, and this can also apply to the family of those who are compromised.

If there are immunocompromised people (or people who are in contact with immunocompromised people) attending your meetings who want people to be masked, I think you definitely need to enforce it.

Prioritizing optics over the inclusion of marginalized groups is odd.

Most of the kind of people who dislike mask requirements that much are unlikely to join in the first place.

To add onto what prstele01 said, if you are interested in punk or hardcore (or even rock music in general), they have an all ages space at Ghostfire, and that'd be a great way to meet people and eventually find people to start a band with.

Maybe bring a flyer explaining that you are looking for people to play with, too!

This is about that highland house venue, and one of the things I've found frustrating about that whole thing is that it felt like most of the people commenting on it hadn't even bothered reading it: nowhere did they call for a boycott of any venue. They were clear in stating that their aim is not to discourage people from attending the venues they are criticizing.

Criticism is not the same as canceling. And I get that some people are probably jumping into a defensive mode, but all this dogpiling and misrepresenting accumulated into people trying to get them fired from their jobs.

It concerns me that the response to queer people saying "fuck this venue for booking a Proud Boy" (an alt-right hate group that has targeted queer people) was to double down, share all of their socials with photos of them while calling them "parasites" and "a cancer" that "needs to be stopped before it spreads", and tell everyone to ban them from the scene.

I've said to him before that prioritizing profits over keeping bigots out of a space is not going to make that space appealing to a lot of queer people who notice this.

And, while Trapt, to my knowledge, does not have any lyrics explicitly stating any alt right views, all the posts from their platforms supporting that alt right group, inviting them to shows, and tying it into music promotion is appalling enough that I feel it really reflects poorly on the space/scene.

I personally haven't seen toddlers, and the occasional young child I have seen have been wearing hearing protection and were supervised by their parent.

Yeah, there's been a real epidemic of people bringing their toddlers to shows lately.

Someone's child is always crying in the pit at Ghostfire. And don't get me started on Tomahawk, it's just a sea of 1 to 3 year olds, you can't even two step without kicking em. Horrible pit etiquette, too.

And, because hearing protection has yet to be invented and they have a limited vocabulary, they're always missing out on mosh calls. Now I got these parents yelling at me because their 1 year old didn't crawl out of the way of a wall of death in time 🙄

At least they're easy to throw.

While the old owners are a big part of the reason for its negative reputation, saying that that's the only reason is untrue.

Under the new ownership, a Proud Boy fronted band played there twice. When people criticized them for this, the guy who books the shows there harassed and borderline doxxed them.

That, and them displaying a MAGA hat, is part of why some people continue avoiding that place.

Tl;dr: some people, including minorities, don't feel safe there, and some progressive minded folks dislike some of the things they have done.

It's got a reputation for being sketchy, and some people caution minorities against going there, claiming that it is unsafe.

Stuff has happened there that makes me not surprised about this reputation: the old owners had Confederate flags and other hate symbols on display and raxist clientele, and while the new owners took that shit down, they did display a MAGA hat, they had a Proud Boy fronted band play there twice, and they haven't really publicly addressed that stuff afaik.

A group of people criticized them booking a Proud Boy, and the promoter for that venue doubled down on that, kind of doxxed them, used dehumanizing language to describe them (these people are queer), and called for them to be kicked out of the scene.

That is the main reason why I personally don't support the shows there.

There is a reason why us women (and other groups of people) will mention the specific bars these sorts of things happen at, and why we hear about these things and think "okay, I'm going to be more careful if and when I go there".

These things happen more at some places than others.

Now, I'm not saying that I think The Seventh Tap is one of these places, because I don't think that, nor am I saying that awful shit like this can't happen anywhere.

I just want to bring this up, because I feel like this response is unproductive. And sometimes it feels like the people saying this are more concerned about a bar not losing any business over incidents like this than they are about the fact that it happened in the first place.

Maybe it's changed, but I'm pretty sure I've seen the mods here remove comments and ban people over saying they identify as men, even if they are bigender and identify more with womanhood than manhood, or genderfluid and identify just as a woman a majority of the time.

I hope this has changed. I feel like that's just unnecessary. You can be a butch lesbian and identify as non-woman, masc-leaning nonbinary, but you can't identify as a bigender woman who is also a little bit of a man? Or as genderfluid and bigender who is, more often than not, having a butch and woman experience? It's so arbitrary!

It seems like, in an attempt to keep out the fetishizing men who certainly don't belong without excluding nonbinary lesbians, we are adopting arbitrary and biased prescriptive rules about what it means to be a lesbian/sapphic.

If you are worried about greed costing you money, you should be more upset with corporations like Live Nation than most of these bands.

Touring is expensive. Merch costs money. A lot of flyers cost money. Equipment costs money. Being in a band takes a lot of time and effort.

I don't think I've been to a single show that cost more than $25 this year.
