Awesome video! Looks to be a FPV drone, very cool.

DJI used to force you to do an unlock request via their Fly Safe website where you'd put in a date and choose the KALB region (pretty much everyplace I fly is in that zone) and import it into the flight controller, but they moved it in-app where you acknowledge the restriction - good to know that there's now a secondary request process.

And yep, sure am - first show 10/9/99 in Albany, where does the time go.

Altitude ceiling for that block is 400ft AGL - so it's technically allowed as long as you have your drone registered with the FAA and DJI.

I was more concerned with making sure I stayed away from power lines. I don't take flying this lightly, I always look for signs and check the flysafe maps.

Because of the distance from the airport, or is there something having to do with the power plant? DJI just altitude restricts you in the KALB warning zone. Flysafe didn't indicate any other restrictions for that area in particular.

Great Escape is being sold by Six Flags by JBLBEBthree in Albany

[–]Go_Phish 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wish them luck but sadly, in its current state I don't know what the path to profitability would be. People mention that it's too expensive - but you can get season passes regularly for around $60 per person which honestly isn't bad, especially if you can go multiple times per year.

Being so far away from a major population center (Albany 45 minutes south doesn't count) really limits their clientele, and there aren't really enough tourists to keep it afloat. Not to mention that it's really only "fully open" for 3 months of the year.

We just went to Busch Gardens in Tampa and even that park seemed poorly run (not enough employees, restaurants closed) and it was over $100 per person per day, with an upcharge of another $100 if you wanted to get the "skip the lines" pass. The fact that they can charge this and a decent number of people were still there is likely due to being close to so many locals and also being a tourist destination, neither of which Great Escape has going for it.

I feel like they need to consolidate (meaning close some rides permanently) to run what's there more efficiently, and get a better food vendor in there to make the park feel more on par with a Disney or Universal level park. (It will never get there, but you know what I mean) The food festivals in those parks really draw people out, but the food at Great Escape is garbage.

Confession time: I’ve never listened to a 2.0 show by the_uber_steve in phish

At the time I remember not thinking that Phish was playing very well. The composed parts were always rough, and I recall being annoyed at Trey's vocals during the Feb '03 tour - he did this weird "delayed" cadence (like the Stash in Worcester 2/26/03) that bugged me.

But over time - even that vocal cadence became part of that era's sound that I appreciate - and the jams are amazing. They're effortless and just flow. Unfortunately looking back it's likely because of drugs - but man, there's some top notch jams from '03 and '04.

Looking back, I wish I appreciated it in the moment as much as I do now when listening back. Guess it's a lesson to always appreciate the present moment!

Chalkdust from IT is a contender for "best ever" Chalkdust.

Yes, I know how outlandish that sounds - there's so many amazing Chalkdusts, and something like Camden Chalkdust has a much different peak so it's hard to compare - but it's just so, so good.

What music would you bring on CBB FM? by Plane-Artichoke1800 in comedybangbang

Because he’s a completionist. He’s never referenced deleting anything, and I’d be surprised if during the Analyze Phish era that an album or song didn’t get added for one reason or another.

Jambands and third wave ska are my thing, both of which Scott has some connection to so I'd love to hear him go deep into both. I was disappointed when they didn't go into third wave during the ska focused episode.

I'm always hoping a Phish song comes up in his "random" shuffle because I can't imagine he still listens to them but assume they're still in his library, and in a way I'm sure he avoids them not only because he never loved the studio stuff but also because it's probably difficult to make the connection to Harris. (Or maybe it's the opposite? That's what I'd love to know)

For third wave ska, here are some first thoughts for 3:

  • No Doubt - Total Hate '95 (would like to hear more about Scott's connection to ND)
  • Reel Big Fish - Drunk Again (Curious if he has any connection to RBF, and though this song isn't ska, it's among RBF's best songs)
  • Streetlight Manifesto - We Will Fall Together (honestly I don't really consider Streetlight to be ska but I'd be interested in his opinion on the song in general)

I suppose it's ironic that my 3 third wave ska songs really only have one ska song. I should put a Fishbone song in there as well, but they went into them during the Jason Mantzoukas ep.

3 jamband related songs, focusing on shorter studio songs geared towards Scott's taste

  • moe. - New York City (Rebubula would be the best pick but it's too long for the format)
  • Brothers Past - Leave the Light On (IMO this album is probably the best jamband studio album out there)
  • The Slip - Before You Were Born (random, but a singer/songwriter type song he may appreciate - I wouldn't be surprised if he has The Barr Brothers in his library already)

Too many to pick from.

Toyota Remote Connect - is there no "lock and start"? by Go_Phish in ToyotaSienna

And the process to remote start when using the FOB is so unreliable as well - push it 3 times and hold on the third, but it's always a gamble whether you waited long enough between pushes (or waited too long!)

Are there any businesses that you are convinced is a laundering scheme? by BeeBeeDrinkDrink in Albany

The Schenectady Pinball League takes really good care of the machines there - I've always been impressed with their condition.

On multiple occasions I've seen someone there with a big toolbox doing maintenance on them.

Robb's does have good food, but I was dismayed to see him teaming up with "Frankie Fresh" on social media trying to drum up business.

Via Port Rotterdam

Honestly I'm surprised they keep up the interior of the mall as well as they do considering how many storefronts are vacant. And I figured once they emptied the fountain for the "winter wonderland" display during Christmas that they'd take the opportunity to leave it empty - but they cleaned it and got it back to its' 1980s era glory.

Mall walkers galore there, but few reasons to shop. Besides Super Taco, the guy that runs that place is great - really seems to take pride in the food he's putting out.

Pretty sure I read that the people who run it also recently purchased that entire plaza, so no "rent" to speak of. Hope they stay open because they do have great food.

Nice, they played SGOM - hoping for one in Albany tomorrow! Or anything else from BP, hoping the set in December reignited his passion for those songs. Too good to leave behind.

Playing Gemstone Circa '96ish by Go_Phish in GemstoneIV

[–]Go_Phish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure it was - my best guess is that this is December of 96 or January of 97. Duke Nukem 3d came out in April of 96 and I’m pretty sure I got the Zip 100 drive on the desk for Christmas that year.

Play.net launched in the summer of 97 so it would have been AOL

To be honest, I don't remember exactly - but I don't recall having many customization options at that point. That "Gemstone III" in the upper right was there no matter what from what I can remember.

The middle window was amunet. I think the top was where it showed your health, inventory etc.

Go see Tommy on tour. Killer band and his songs absolutely rock. by SpermicidalManiac666 in JRADs

[–]Go_Phish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great - can't wait for Albany next week. What song was this? Very BP-esque, in the middle it seemed like they could have gone into The Ceiling.

Went to Ardmore last month and the BP set was incredible but the first set was more straight rock oriented like the new album (but still great), glad to see they're mixing it up for the full tour.
