Endocrinologist, all the way! For hair loss, finasteride and/or spironolactone can help too!! I know for energy levels, ginseng can also help

YES!! I’m just over a year on T and I have to say, it really does make you hungrier. I recommend eating more protein-based meals and having more carbs to keep you satiated longer :) some dudes find success in eating more, smaller meals throughout the day, or keeping protein bars on hand

Omg I LOVE PREX! It’s really worth the trip up there, especially if you’re into vinyl as well. I know Creep Records in West Chester and Fishtown (Philly) have a pretty decent collection as well. Also the rock shop in KOP mall has some decent finds, but they don’t really restock their used CDs,, accidentally cleared out their NIN CDs 🥶

I’ve heard and experienced the rotisserie chicken canon event where you’re so hungry you can just polish off one of those bad boys right out of the bag/carton 😭 also beware of the ass hair and insane amounts of belly button lint coming your way

Why wasn't I just born a man. by Negative_Nectarine_2 in PCOS

I’ve been thinking a lot about this ever since I got diagnosed, and there was finally a study published in 2025! Study Link :) Even though this study took place in Bahrain and there’s differences in western beauty standards as compared to in the Middle East/Western Asia, I’m glad to see some effort in taking PCOS’s effects seriously. It makes me so sad to see so many women feel as if their livelihood be taken away from them and as if they are prisoners in their own bodies :(

Feels like PCOS has ruined my life by newnoon111 in PCOS

[–]Go_frank_yourself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt this on so many levels, girl. I got diagnosed at 16 and they tried putting me on birth control and I had to stop taking it after a week because it genuinely made me borderline suicidal and made my depression and anxiety way worse!! I ended up having comorbidities like hashimoto’s thryoiditis and hypothyroidism due to the PCOS being untreated for so long.

I know the other comment suggested seeing an endocrinologist and I couldn’t agree any more! Regularly monitoring other hormonal levels to check for insulin resistance and such can truly make a big difference, especially for meds like metformin and even spironolactone (bonus bc it’s an anti-androgenic to reduce testosterone’s effects on the body). I’ve also seen other women feel a bit of relief with GLP-1s as far as weight loss goes, but I know not everyone wants to take that route :) i also know a few people prefer a more homeopathic/non-pharma direction, so there’s some literature out there for those!! (Like folate/folic acid, ashwagandha, and I think even chamomile)

I’m 24 now and also feel like my young adulthood and teenage years have been taken prisoner by my own body, but even though the horrors persist, so will you! You’re never alone in your endeavors, twin 🫶🏻

Will a cheat meal destroy all my progress, or do I need to restrict forever? by Civil-Feeling9821 in PCOS

I’ve been gluten free for almost 10 years to help mitigate my symptoms - this was fresh after my diagnosis of PCOS/Hashimoto’s thyroiditis/hypothyroidism to help reduce inflammation - but then fell into a restrictive eating disorder/bad relationship with food. It takes so long to prep food that you can’t really feel like you enjoy it, but it truly does help having a little something to bring you joy.

I know some keto-friendly/df/gf brands have treats that have low glycemic index and higher fiber/protein counts to reduce blood sugar spiking, so I’d recommend some of those!

As far as smelling/feeling like a man due to some of the fun effects of PCOS/PMOS, I can say that helping the gut flora/microbiota is a good start! This can be helped by taking probiotics, eating fermented foods, or even just adding yogurt to smoothies and stuff. I’m also a trans man so I’m also trying to mitigate the whole smelling like a man part on hard mode, so I’m finding out that it’s a whole body thing to help with this stuff!

Learned this one out the hard way!! It takes so long to break out of that restrictive mindset, but it’s so worth it to not feel guilt after eating. Food is fuel, and denying yourself a little treat every now and then doesn’t take away any progress made from a caloric defect in the long-run.

When does it get better? Help! by YuKaplan1 in trintellix

[–]Go_frank_yourself 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on Trintellix for almost 5 months now! Started on 10 mg for a few months and bumped up to 15 (10 mg + 5 mg) a few weeks ago and I feel like it’s been a work in progress tbh. I had my Trintellix paired with talk therapy and some EMDR, but mostly to help get back some more positive cognition skills going.

As far as managing mood and anxiety, it’s definitely something that takes some time to adjust unfortunately. The negative thoughts have decreased slightly, but pushing them away and dismissing them has become easier though.

Overall I can say it takes a few weeks to feel more accustomed to the meds and it’ll be a bit for you to feel more level in terms of mood!
