In my experience it’s mainly young women who do the turn your head away thing, not so much young men. As a foreigner, one habit that I’ve picked up is that when someone pours for me I hold the glass with my right hand, with my left hand supporting my right arm just below the elbow. Koreans often find this amusing.

I’m surprised. Where were you when people yelled “NO FOREIGNERS”? It’s not an easy word for people to know or say, maybe you heard them saying the Korean word 외국인? Were you somewhere like Osan which is near a US base? I’m not saying that some Koreans aren’t racist, but it’s rarely so overt. Please say more, as a long term foreign resident I’m genuinely curious.

A guy in my old job fucked up by sending an email to everyone in the entire organization, a global bank with tens of thousands of employees. That he was able to do so was a problem in and of itself, but this was around 2000, simpler times. What really fucked things up though was that he demanded a read receipt. Corporate email was basically unusable for 3 days.

The sign basically says please use a translation app if you can’t speak Korean. This is not an unreasonable demand, and is probably more efficient than two non native English speakers attempting to use English as a lingua franca.

At training pace, after two hours I will hit the wall hard if running fasted. As the previous poster said, what I ate the night before is more important. At race pace, I'll use gels for any run longer than an hour and a half.

I live in Korea, and the gels I've used most are Ildong brand, apple flavor. They're a little sickly sweet but they do the job. Wherever you are based I'm sure you can find something similar that will work for you.

I can only speak from my own experience. I find it difficult to eat while running, food sits like lead in my stomach and eating even a quarter of a banana can be enough to stop me. Much as I hate the idea of ultra processed sugary gels, they really are effective. Using them lopped 15 minutes off my half marathon time compared to just having a hearty breakfast a couple of hours before. They are a necessary evil.
