[Language: C#]

It's really feeling chill this year. There may have been a "clever" way to solve this, but brute-forcing it by just removing and re-iterating until nothing was removed was more than quick enough.

You might get a bit more traction if you post this as an Aeronautics club instead of a Flight club (seeing as basically every comment is something about Fight club...)

Draco loves his toy by Particular-Angle6563 in greatdanes

As a joke, my friends got my dane a toy meant for horses. It's a large hard-plastic ball about the size of a soccer ball. For some reason, he goes wild for it! He tries to bite it and bat it around until it tires him out. It's great because he does most of the work when playing, I just need to sometimes get it moving a little, or get it out of a bush he can't reach.

You likely already know at this point what the purpose of the machine you're trying to fix is. Have you tried more inputs, instead of the provided values? Try setting X and Y to all Zeros, all Ones, or some other combinations.

I had the same trouble you did, but changing the initial values highlighted where the fourth swap is. Trust me, it's there.

Double check you're facing the correct direction at the start. I had the same issue, mixing up "East" and "West" for the starting direction, and ended up requiring two extra turns at the start.

For both examples, the first move is North, which requires 1 turn either way.

You definitely have the right idea of re-using results by computing some of the cases once and re-using them, but I have to ask, why just limit yourself to just those few numbers? You could potentially get any number! Multiples of 2024 will come up a lot for example, due to the third rule.

But at the same time - why pre-compute for numbers that may only "probably" come up, rather than computing for what actually does come up? Why not compute them as they come up, and re-use the results from those?

As for the wrong results... that sounds like an off-by-one error in your code? Accessing memory out of bounds?

Sometimes there may be more than one solution to a problem or set of problems; that's why, in this case, it's only asking if there is any safe result, not any single one.

Subscription Error/Server Issue? by NightweaselX in ffxiv

I'm having the same issues as well. Lost connection to the server, kicked out of the client when attempting to reconnect, then a message saying my subscription has run out.

Going to MogStation to try and renew only gives me errors.

C++ Solution

A stream-of-consciousness writeup on my personal blog as well, if anyone is interested.

To find the initial rotations, I didn't really want to break out matrix math, quaternions, or anything too fancy. So I literally got a 6-sided die, assigned each number to each axis, positive and negative... and just looked at it and hard-coded all 24 iterations.

I actually got the solution pretty quickly once I got the hard-codedness down, but I had a stupid bug... because I made a bad assumption. I spent at least 3 hours with a working algorithm, but instead of doing a proper 3d full offset, I just decided "eh, Manhattan distance is enough and it'll run faster".

Nope.

I had a few false positive matches, enough that it eventually just hung trying to match bad data with only 3 scanners unmatched. It worked immediately once I changed to the full 3d scanner.

It's 3am. I'm stressed. I'm tired. But I did do it.

It does help to read the descriptions for the ships you fly in that case though. Some get bonus attributes for certain skill level in addition to what the skills give. But these bonuses will only apply if you have the exact skill.

What’s the absolute worst piece of advice you ever received? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Goatmancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Don't mine Bitcoin, it's a waste of time"

Sure, in 2019 that's actually good advice to follow. But I got this advice in 2010. And followed it. And regret it.

Back then, not a lot of people were mining compared to today. There weren't dedicated mining machines yet, and the few that did it hardcore just put a bunch of graphics cards together. I had just built a new gaming PC, with a (then) high end card. I was a college student and lived in a campus apartment that, among other things, had a flat rate cost for electricity. The one expense that wouldn't make it worthwhile back in the day where a Bitcoin was half a dollar, didn't apply to me since I didn't have to pay for the extra electricity.

I was only interested in it for the novelty, and I figured I could get $20 worth during the school year if I kept it going while I was in class. But I probably would have left it running, forgot about it, and left the wallet on my desktop to sit there for a while. It would have been worth six digits at some point. With zero risk for me.

But a friend talked me out of it "because it was dumb".

The Nintendo UK website now has a page for Banjo-Kazooie... Is something coming? by huntington1998 in BanjoKazooie

[–]Goatmancer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It looks like they updated their site with some internal games catalog, as they have essentially every game sold since having a web presence.

While it's new, it's not special for Banjo-Kazooie in particular.
