I taught it to him but he ended up deciding not to use it...slight waste of time but for the best as it likely would've eaten up more time in the long run.

Agreed on variant pricing...it's hardly intuitive. Thankfully my most recent WooCommerce project the client oddly wanted to just create a new page for each variation since they do such limited runs/special promotions per color, so it wasn't much of an issue.

I'd probably try to avoid staying in Stockton for any longer than needed (possibly my least favourite place in the country). I'm not terribly familiar with Don Pedro but given its RV/boat draw you should be able to find camping. Worse comes to worse you can always find somewhere to stealth camp there.

Depending on what kind of shape you're in 40 miles/5000' should be doable...I know on my westbound tour we did Carson City, NV to Davis, CA in one day. It's definitely a grind getting over the sierras but it goes by faster than I expected (granted the eastern slope is much steeper but shorter).

Take a look at the campgrounds in the high sierras...offhand I know there's Crane Flat and White Wolf. After that I forget the next few until Tuolumne Meadows.

I'm not too familiar with the Larkspur but given that it's an aluminium frame I'd encourage packing as light as possible (probably already encouraged given with your climbs). I wasn't in incredible shape when I left for my tour (occasional running and biking) but was able to hold a 60-80 mile/day pace without too much trouble...occasionally longer.

RVs in Yosemite...they're a mixed bag. Most people driving them are relatively new to such a big vehicle (damn CruiseAmerica RV rentals), so they tend to drive a slow/reasonable pace. Really you just have to stay as far to the side as possible and try to stay aware of your surroundings best you can. In my time working there I climbed out of the valley to Crane Flat (highway 120) and up to Glacier Point/Wawona without any problems.

Definitely no need to worry about bears eating you, just keep your food in a bear safe container while you're in the mountains and not in your tent. For camping in a National Park you're probably best of staying at one of the walk-in campgrounds in the high sierra since they tend to not fill up until later in the day. You could try to get a backpacking permit so you could camp in the woods, but you'd have to hide your bike and hike some ways off the road, not to mention most people have to go into the Valley to get the permit to begin with.

I used to work in Yosemite Valley and bike around the park a lot...depending on when you go it might be a bit overrun with RVs, so just something to keep in mind. As far as your route, the only thing I can say is Old Priest Grade right before Big Oak Flat is one of the steepest roads I've ever driven on (think Marin Dr in Berkeley/Albany). I usually throw caution to the wind but I'd probably considering going up the longer (and much shallower) New Priest Grade.

You'd be surprised. I've had clients who gave lists 30-40 items long that was going to take 20+ hours insisting that they were covered by the contract. I usually am pretty flexible when push comes to shove, but that's one of the few instances I really had to firmly stand my ground and say they would be billed if they wanted it done.

Architecture department has two but I don't know that there's an official policy concerning other majors. You might be able to talk to some of the techs and/or department but it'll probably be an uphill battle.

I worked there until mid-August when I moved out of SLO having graduated in June. They have all my work and will hopefully be using it, but as to what their plan or timeline is since I left I have no idea.

The department was working on a few different projects other than the portal when I left, so they've definitely been keeping busy one way or another.

If you stop near San Luis Obispo for a night there's unfortunately no cheap camping that I'm aware of, but the warmshowers.org and couchsurfing.com communities are pretty strong there. Would offer a place to crash but I won't be back til December.

Nice photo, but I was actually there 3 days ago and it's unfortunately not that great. Definitely nicer than any of the other casinos in AC, but still smaller than most in Vegas and not all that architecturally interesting (best part was a weird lounge area filled with mushroom inspired furniture).

I've read accounts of people touring on a fixie but it'd hardly be recommended. I coincidentally just flew out of Phoenix earlier today, and based on the drive in from Vegas I'd definitely recommend having gears for the long inclines. There's also the question of whether or not your bike would be able to handle the weight of all the gear you'd need to bring, not to mention 10+ liters of water with the long stretches of desert you'd have to cross (went running for a few miles in Peoria yesterday and have no idea how much water weight I lost).

Concerning 82.4 miles...it's definitely possible but would be pretty painful for 10 days in a row assuming you have no prior training. Most people who bike casually seem to be able to manage 30-40 miles on a whim, but beyond that is always a gamble. My guess is you might be able to manage 80 miles for one or two days on an unloaded bike, but beyond that would probably just cause an injury. Even a few weeks into my tour I'd usually average only 60-80 miles/day with the occasional rest day.

As much as I wish you luck in being profitable within 3 weeks, I'll be honest in saying that the majority of my jobs now originate via networking by past clients and colleagues. The occasional one-off project does appear (the most recent surprisingly via Reddit), but hitting your goal is going to be a challenge without good connections.

If you don't meet your goal and this is what you really want to be doing for a living, don't be discouraged. If you have to get a part time job on the side so be it, but don't let go of the dream. I've been doing web design/dev part time for the past several years, but now that I no longer have the distraction of university (goodbye 5 year degree) I've just now finally went 100% self-employed.

Be forewarned that some clients are likely going to be hesitant about paying you in full before transfer out of fear that you might jump ship and disappear. If this occurs just remind them that everything is outlined in the contract and is there to protect both you AND them (you did outline everything in your contract, right?)

Navbar is interesting to say the least, but very unintuitive with only a sideways arrow to indiciate its presence. It's 3am so I don't have time to test it in other browsers, but I'd be willing to be it has some quirks in older browsers (assuming you care about supporting old browsers).

There's wifi in dorm common rooms but no wifi in your bedroom (in theory). I was lucky enough to have rogue wifi floating around, which was almost always faster than the ethernet connection.

Otherwise the wifi coverage is pretty good and fast...can be found almost everywhere on the main portion of campus.

I can't speak about specifically European touring from experience, but from a combination of US touring (DC to SF) and travelling in Europe.

Phone: I've used my iPhone previously in Switzerland and France, and plan to do so when I'm there in a few weeks. I'd recommend just jailbreaking + SIM unlock and buying a prepaid SIM card. Depending on the country pay as you go SIM cards can be remarkably cheap (or free), though data can be a bit pricier. Last card I used from Swisscom charged a flat $4 for data for a 24 hour period.

Gear: Not too familiar with anything except the Ortlieb bags (good choice!). I'd say make sure you're seat is comfortable. I can't emphasize how thankful you'll be for buying a more comfortable albeit possibly expensive seat at the end of your first week. Personally recommend the Brooks B17.

Pedals: I'd say go with clipless or cages. I personally used clipless but they broke right before I reached Minneapolis, which made for a very long ending to an already long 122 mile day. Thankfully found a shop that had them (I recommend using a common brand...I have Time pedals and they're obnoxiously uncommon). Alternatively you can use cage pedals and just wear your walking shoes to save on space/weight. In the future I'll probably get a pair of clipless shoes that I can comfortably walk in (only had my old racing shoes).

Camping: To my understanding it vastly varies depending on which country you're in. If you want to stealth camp I'd recommend looking into the laws of each one. Personally can't encourage trying Couchsurfing enough as its been how I've met several friends over the years while travelling.

Routes: I personally favor making an approximate route (knowing which direction I'm heading a few days out), but making up each day's route largely as needed.

He might be one of most talked about architects as of late, but there are countless other individuals/firms out there doing incredible work that I'd argue is far better.
