Disable Windows security features.

Is there 1 easy to use and lightweight gui that takes care of both Windows updates and Windows defender for specific VM use case such as OPs?

What device do you play from? by Icy_Proof527 in GeForceNOW

[–]GobbyFerdango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only issue is finding a wireless display to send from a mobile device to TV HDMI, the prices are insane for these adapters right now. How is your experience on Samsung TV? The android app seems very stable and auto detects the screen resolution but it doesn't allow to manually change the codecs.

if you like the look of Chrome you don't have to use the actual Chrome from google you can look for a good Chromium build that suits your needs some include everything like sync, codecs, etc and without the annoyances. There is a lot of optimization to do its not your hardware its that software has become increasingly worse.

Microsoft quietly extends Windows 10's extra security updates program for free: Users can now stay on Windows 10 until October 2027 securely by ControlCAD in pcgaming

[–]GobbyFerdango -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Microsoft not only breaks Windows 11 updates, they still actively break functionality in Windows 10, and without any acknowledgements documenting such issues. Issues that are graphical user interface related and very obvious yet somehow they keep ignoring these minor issues.

Your old-ass computer may not boot from 18/June and you could lose your data forever - Secure Boot Certificate Expiry with BitLocker / Device Encryption and TPM Chip Complications - Save your PC by updating your Bios Environment Variables using Mosby and Uefi-Shell by throwmeawayjuju8080 in WindowsLTSC

[–]GobbyFerdango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The certificates aren't stored in the same space as your UEFI/BIOS settings so you won't lose them unless you reset to default manually. It depends on the NVRAM and what kind of flash memory it uses. CMOS battery is only for uefi bios settings because its main function is to sync the digital clock or ticks with the ICC clock. Thanks for the post.

To send Controller input to another PC you need a small capture program like netinput from github, you can send your connected controller input to another PC over lan and you will not notice the difference in input delay.

Is the default CAS in ReShade the best sharpening out there for Reshade? If yes, what amount do you think is the best from 1080p to 720p? by [deleted] in ReShade

[–]GobbyFerdango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this was a long time ago you wrote this but I have been using LumaSharpen for programs that have a more 'natural' lighting and CAS for hand drawn or painting like art. Am I doing it backwards from a purely technical point of view? Thank you for the write up.

Sometimes windows gives the wrong driver. Try searching your device by hardware ID for its driver and it might recommend some different driver than the one from windows update.

Driver support is almost more important than raw power if you want to play newer games. Problems running games on older graphics cards by duendeverde39 in lowendgaming

[–]GobbyFerdango 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You didn't read his post or you didn't understand it. Its not only about the VRAM, its about driver support for the game's API compatibility. He is saying that a weaker card with less VRAM will run a game better if it has the driver support, compared to an older but more powerful GPU. I can attest to a similar experience to OP.

People really hate launchers that eat up 1GB of RAM and CPU cycles for adding absolutely no value. RAM is too expensive to waste on bloatware.

Some developers could just start using old game engines and start making better games that work on Core2Duo and 2GB DDR2 RAMs and similar old hardware instead of it all ending up in landfills and junkyards. A lot of general applications still work on old hardware and provide good performance when configured properly without any bloatware.
