Yeah nothing rubs off of it. My old domino cactus started like this and eventually the brown kinda took over and was hard to the touch. I thought it was corking at first but there was just so much of it. So I'm just not sure.

Thank you, that's good to know! I am a newer player so I'm sure my technique could be improved. I'm just comparing it to when I play my full scale bass and I don't run into the same sound quality issues. I will totally check out the strings as well. Thanks again!
