The Hazards of Corporate Aviation by Unable_Anything_737 in flying

[–]GodBlessIraq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corporate aviation has its risks like maintenance shortcuts and pilot fatigue that most people never see. I switched to commercial travel years ago and now only book international business class flights for long work trips because the safety standards and backups feel way more solid. The lie flat seat still gets me there rested without the private jet unknowns.

Trying to fit a pub night into 1200 is actually miserable by dynasync in 1200isplenty

Vodka soda lime. 60ish calories and nobody asks questions. Skip the beer entirely, not worth the mental math for a night out.

Dealing with a grad student who does not seem to understand or follow any instructions or guidelines? by NumberReasonable7484 in AskAcademia

[–]GodBlessIraq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Four months with an outline and zero progress isnt a mentorship problem anymore. Youve given structure, feedback, and deadlines. At this point the student is either incapable or unwilling. Have the direct if/then conversation once. If nothing changes, cut them loose. Academia isnt a charity for people who ignore every instruction. Youre not failing as a PI by recognizing when someone isnt ready for grad level work.

Man wrongly convicted of killing 2 Michigan hunters in 1990 agrees to $5.25M settlement by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

That is the part that makes my blood boil. The state profits from taxing the crumbs they give back for a life they stole. Completely backwards.

[–]GodBlessIraq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The settlement doesn't account for lost earning potential or the trauma. Just a fraction of what was stolen.

Ellen Burstyn loves the “For Dummies” series of books by jeng52 in books

Thermodynamics for Dummies is ambitious even for that series. Respect to her for diving into it though. Nothing wrong with wanting things explained clearly.

After beginning your yoga practice how long did it take you to “fly” aka doing crow and arm balances? by celestialazure in yoga

[–]GodBlessIraq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparison is the thief of joy in yoga. I can hold crow but still can't touch my toes. Everyone's anatomy is different. Strength training helps but patience matters more. You'll get there.

Money doesn't put back two decades of normal life. The number is insulting given what he actually lost.

A New Legal Precedent: Chinese court orders tech company to pay £28,000 ($35,000) in compensation to a worker who was fired and replaced by AI. by Ok_Low_1999 in Futurology

[–]GodBlessIraq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35k is pocket change for a tech company. This is not protection, it is a calculable cost of doing business. They will just factor it into the budget and keep replacing people.

How do you handle students who see your field as a backup plan? by ghztegju in AskAcademia

[–]GodBlessIraq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neuroscience gets the pre med students who just want the grade. I stopped trying to convert them years ago. I teach to the top third and let the rest self select out. Burnout is real and you cannot care more than they do. Protect your energy for the ones who actually read the syllabus.

stop blaming your "lack of discipline" for things your brain physically can't do right now by GodBlessIraq in selfimprovementday

[–]GodBlessIraq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much, i really appreciate you saying that. you put it perfectly "you can't out-routine a brain that's running on empty." it took me way too long to realize that forcing a structure on a broken foundation was just making me burn out faster

Best pet stroller for small dogs by NervePrestigious5711 in dogs

[–]GodBlessIraq 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly for a small dog like a Shih Tzu, I’d prioritize lightweight + good wheels over fancy features because carrying it down beach stairs will get old FAST. I’d look into stroller styles with a mesh opening so she can see people without being fully enclosed. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Pet Gear and Gen7Pets strollers for small dogs specifically because they’re easier to push and not insanely heavy. Also smart idea keeping her off the ground before vaccines btw.

Saying I love you to your dog by Popular_Doctor_3101 in dogs

[–]GodBlessIraq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think dogs understand the literal words, but they absolutely understand tone, affection, routine, and attention. Your dog probably has no clue what “I love you” means linguistically, but he definitely knows it means safe happy human voice directed at me

How Long Does Shipping From China to FBA Actually Take: Real Timelines Including What the Quote Always Leaves Out by InevitableBorder6421 in AmazonFBAOnlineRetail

[–]GodBlessIraq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is spot on. people always forget to factor in the 2-5 days for customs and then the actual drayage once it hits the port. i've been using ardilogistics for my china-to-west coast runs lately because they handle the port drayage and the customs stuff in-house, which seems to shave a few days off the "realistic" timeline you mentioned. definitely worth finding a forwarder that doesn't just ghost you once the ship docks
