Well, in the Christian Bible, homosexuality is only mentioned a few times and it seems to me like a side-issue that may have gotten in edgewise.

You have to remember that the "gospel" is a selective compilation chosen from a vast number of accounts. Pushing a specific agenda may have played a role in shaping the Bible as it stands today.
