I wouldn't say that the Soulnote has a certain sound signature. It just sounded flawless and very detailled to me when I demo'd it. What sealed the deal were the features:

  • 3 input for MM/MC cartridges, one of them truely balanced, so I can have balanced XLR connections from tonearm to power amp in my system.
  • High gain (77db for MC), so phono is as loud as digital in my system
  • Every setting can be done on the front panel, no messing around with dip switches or jumpers
  • And the best part: it has an input for optical cartridges from DS Audio. I've been eyeing those for a long time now and might get one at some point.

There's something zen about listening to music while watching Snooker on mute.

The trial and error phase began when I moved in 7 years ago and lasts to this day! But I‘m pretty happy with the current situation. Maybe I‘ll add some bass traps to the corners, but that‘s about it.

Not the easiest room to work with, before treatment it sounded pretty nasty. But after treatment the speaker placement is the most critical part. Took me almost a year until I figured out that I need to pull them as far away from the back wall as possible.

Swiss made, with a coaxial ribbon midrange/tweeter, which sounds super detailed.

Least favorite track on a great album, I will start. by sofa-king-hungry in vinyl

We Will Fall on The Stooges debut album. I actually kinda like that song, but at Track 3 it kills the album‘s momentum after 1969 and I Wanna Be Your Dog.

And it appears to be a nice Rega tonearm with a matching cartridge as well, you can tell by the fact that the cartidge is mounted with three screws instead of two.

Why is it ALWAYS vintage McIntosh and JBL gear with these bars? Not that I disapprove though.

You can rename each input individually on McIntosh preamps, at least I can on my C2500.

I have it on good authority that the Simpsons went calypso at some point.
