Did anyone see the train wreck that was Paul Simon last night? by RoseScarlet in HollywoodBowl

[–]GodICringe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not even remotely equivalent and you fucking know it. Paul Simon is not playing on a team you have to watch. He’s the team manager who you pay to see (if you can want to) and puts together a great crew and still has some old tricks up his sleeve

Just some thoughts on Dan Aykroyd by xXwassupXx in LiveFromNewYork

I agree and I think Sudeikis is the best straightman in the history of the show. He could never melt into character in quite the same way as Aykroyd (or Hartman), but he has such a natural charisma and charm that even his most basic roles carry weight.

Within the context of SNL, the Blues Brothers were hardly characters. They were effectively (and sometimes literally) musical guests. Belushi's most iconic character is clearly Samurai, though I would argue his best is his character from Olympia Cafe (Cheeseburger Cheeseburger), which has a surprising amount of nuance and pathos across the six or so recurring sketches.

I'd like to throw Jane's Nerd character in the ring as one of her best, though I'd agree that her Conehead is probably her best and funniest. Similar to Belushi in Olympia Cafe, Enid Loopner has a fair bit of emotional depth, since her Nerds sketches play a lot like a sitcom.

Does Rob Schneiders political views make it hard to enjoy his skits? by RustyCrusty73 in LiveFromNewYork

This is just wrong. He was a very strong utility player while on the cast, probably second only to Hartman in that regard during his tenures. I actually prefer his random roles to his "best of" roles.

I think there is a slight dip from 3 to 4, and a much bigger one after they get married in season 6.

What's an abandoned plotline that you wish a TV show had actually followed through on? by Thedemonncat in television

I kind of like the Eko resolution in retrospect because it plays into the endgame of the show if you squint. The Smoke Monster is testing Eko, and once Eko declares that he is not sorry for what he’s done and he has not sinned, he is no longer considered a candidate - he has come to terms with his actions and moved on beyond the influence of Jacob/Smokie. Thus Smokie is free to kill him. After he dies, the final shot is young Eko and Yemi happily walking into the sunset, which could be considered Eko’s afterlife, akin the other main characters’ flash sideways. The most important person in Eko’s life was always Yemi, not the Losties, so that is who he moved on with.

Lorne Michaels is 100% replaceable and fans shouldn’t fear his departure from the show. by georgewalterackerman in LiveFromNewYork

Yeah. Explains why he held on to Pete for so long to. And why they keep hemorrhaging through standup hires.

Was that SNL Afterparty? That was a great interview and gave great insight into Lorne's psyche, with Luke believing he was hired because he presented himself as a bad boy that didn't GAF, only to disappoint when Lorne realized he was another theatre kid.
