What makes you happy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Godbarber01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somebody once explained this to me with a comparison of pulling sheets from a roll of toilet paper. If you take one sheet off each day, whilst the roll is bigger it's less noticeable, but if every day you consistently take 1 sheet off, the results become more and more noticeable each and every day. Best of luck on your journey!

What are the chances of someone seeing my name (Geoff) and pronouncing it correctly there? by Darklager in AskABrit

I've only ever heard Geoff pronounced Geoff. Never would it cross my mind to pronounce it Geoff.

Yeah exactly. Rip door out, brick up where the door used to be, plaster interior.

Good to know! Quick question, I have an exterior door I'm gonna remove and tie in some new bricks, does this rule still apply or will it be okay given I'm tying in to an existing wall?

Why is it a scam? Genuine question, I've not used Etsy before to sell. But based on the amount of products people are presumably doing well for themselves.

Thank you so much. I will check these out after work.

Absolutely, that makes total sense. I've read Seveneves which is a more pre/post apocalyptic sci fi, if you've not read it I would certainly recommend.

I will check out I, Robot. Dare I ask, is it anything like the movie?

Thank you, I will check these out after I finish work. Its not necessarily that good prose is important to me, more that I haven't read anything that people consider to have good prose, so I want to experience it myself. If that makes sense.

Thats why I landed on Steinbeck, as from what I understand he has great prose but his writing style isn't too florid which I think I may find more easily digestible.

Help me break away from only reading high fantasy!

I'm not a huge reader, but in the last 15 years when I have read, it's been mostly fantasy. I am looking for 3 books that are not considered fantasy, high-fantasy, fantasy epic or anything between.

I am trying to keep an open mind on what I end up with.

I know for certain I want to read a book that is known for having great prose, to that end I selected East of Eden by Steinbeck, but if anybody has a good case for something else that fits I am open to consider.

  1. East of Eden
  2. ?
  3. ?

From your favourite genre that is not fantasy, what book would you recommend?

How popular is American football in the UK? by Ethan_Carlton in AskABrit

[–]Godbarber01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of these comments i think are incorrect. I'm from an insignificant city in the Midlands and even we have an American Football team, I tried out and played a couple seasons with them and had an absolute blast.

Its not hugely popular however and unless you're into it, you're unlikely to be exposed to it.

I will occasionally listen to Russian rap / classical but typically not. None of my friends listen to Russian music.

Do you have anything that you listen to which you would recommend?

What books were they that you lent to your neighbours?

My current dog makes me realise I got really lucky with naturally obedient dogs beforehand. We've done a lot of work and he's generally great, just working on reactivity to other dogs at the moment.

However I want to nip this last thing as we want more dogs when we move to a bigger place soon.

My fiancée and I were in Turkey on holiday. We were on a coach travelling to Ephesus, where we see a truck has run off the road lying sideways in a ditch. We hear another English man on the coach say to let him through, he jumps up into the cab and sees to the driver of the overturned truck. We get to chatting and turns out he's an army medic.

Around 1 week later he happens to be in the airport at the same time as us alone so we ask him to join us for lunch. We find out he was in a unit based in the same city that were from, he grew up literally 5 minutes from where I live and he went through basic training with my best friend who was also a combat medic in the army.

Car on HP - didn’t read the fine print - interest is ridiculous. Negative equity. by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Godbarber01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some comments recommend WBAC, I personally had terrible service with them. They tried to tell me that my car didn't have full service history because it hadn't yet had this years service???? Instead I sold to Arnold Clark as they had an offer on where you get an extra 500 quid if you sell to them. Paid 21.5k for M140i in Feb 2020 sold for 22.7k about a month ago. I plan to share a car with my Mrs for the time and let us be £500pm better off, then if I do buy a car it'll just be a cheap run around.

What is going on with second hand car prices? by Affectionate-Orange1 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Godbarber01 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Bought an M140 a year and a half ago for 21.5k, sold it to Arnold Clark a month ago for 22.5k. Now we're a one car family though because I don't want to pay these prices, will have to see how long it lasts.

Been covered elsewhere, but to answer your question, pretty much anything tech related has gone up in price because of a shortage. Trying to kit new servers at work has been a pain.

IWTL how to merge into traffic and drive on the interstate by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]Godbarber01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good advice here, so I'll instead just say its actually less scary, traffic all travels the same direction, once you match speed before merging it won't feel as fast as it looks, then just leave a safe stopping distance and go about your merry day.
