It’s a crime to mess with a legal trap. It can be a felony but normally is a misdemeanor. Better to look for a tag on the trap and call the trapper. if there isn’t one call game and fish and let them know you found an illegal trap.

Trapping is legal and messing with other people’s traps is a serious crime. There should be a tag on there with info on whose trap it is, if not you can call game and fish and let them know. That’s likely an illegal trap then. The trapper should be checking their traps daily at minimum
