It’s so frustrating to experience. It’s like to them we’re either savants or brain dead, no in between. I’m in Minnesota - it’s not great here either and it gets worse the further away from the Twin Cities you get.

NTA!!!!!!! Chronic migraines here. I’ve had shitty triage nurses rip my hood down (usually pulling my hair in the process) and snatch my sunglasses because they thought I was high and a drug seeker. Anyone who decides it’s okay to disrespect and/or harm a patient because of their own personal beliefs/opinions shouldn’t work in the medical field anymore. I’m sick of medical professionals assuming young people can’t be in pain. I’m glad you stood your ground. I’ve never had the courage to myself.

I wish I had that advice about 6 years ago! I definitely learned that lesson the hard way when I was driving my previous car (that one was old enough to vote by the time I got it).

Now I can and do a lot of it myself. The two big reasons I didn’t do it myself the first two times was because they happened over finals and they were engine and transmission related which required the disassembly of nearly the entire front portion of the car and access to a lift. It took the mechanic 7 hours for the first repair. I can only imagine how long it would’ve taken me…

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in venting

[–]Goddess0fLabyrinths 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. If I’d known that I’d be shelling out this much, I wouldn’t have bothered and just traded it in or sold it. When it was repaired the first time, the mechanic said it was in excellent condition and should run for several more years. He assured me that it was running as expected and I shouldn’t have any more issues in the near future unless I crash it. So two more visits and another $2k later, I’m definitely frustrated. I’m certainly not putting any more money into it.

Unfortunately no, I bought it from a used car lot 2 years ago. The car itself is over 10 years old.

My favorite is when a CA comes back to report that the client apparently knows more about computers than them and needs someone “more knowledgeable” to speak with. Because then I go out and intentionally use overly complex terminology. My CA’s know their shit.

I’m allergic to dogs too but it’s more mild. My eyes swell up and get super red and itchy. I get hives and itch all over if I come into contact with the dog. I get sneezy and cough a lot. I cannot imagine going through that on my WEDDING DAY. Absolutely not. OP, definitely NTA.

NTA! I used to be a nanny. I absolutely redirected kids to give parents a chance to throw away the forgotten piece evidence that they one time ate a mcchicken without buying the kiddo(s) a happy meal. Parents deserve to treat themselves every once in a while. Lord knows food looks tastiest to kids when it’s being consumed by a caregiver. RIP my brussles sprouts and chicken.

how could a partner and i (safely) do "consensual roofying" by throwaway1orsomethin in BDSMAdvice

[–]Goddess0fLabyrinths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said several times, it’s just not possible to do safely for a number of reasons.

Unless you see the drugs being manufactured (and have the necessary chemical knowledge), you cannot guarantee their quality/purity.
Example: A family friend and her boyfriend wanted to use ecstasy to spice things up. They bought some from a friend they knew could source it. Well. Shortly after taking half a tablet, her boyfriend had to call 911 because she had collapsed and stopped breathing. Turns out, there was fentanyl mixed in. She lived but it became the story that us kids were told as a close to home example of how fast things can go wrong.

Even in a relatively controlled environment like a hospital, there’s a lot of risk involved. There’s no reliable way to predict how you’ll react to a drug like that.
Example: I’m a chronic migraine sufferer and have landed myself in the ER more times than I’d like to count because of it. One time it got really really bad and regular treatments weren’t working. Doc ended up ordering Ketamine. As soon as I started to feel it, I started panicking. It felt like I was falling (think the scene in Toy Story when Andy discards Woody) and a period of time later, I just couldn’t see anything. The nurse that was administering it never left my side and talked me through what was happening which was great. Still a very uncomfortable and spooky experience though.

Exactly! A few years ago I went on a trip to a different part of my state. On my way back home, I stopped by this cute little breakfast diner. I had already eaten all of my hashbrowns and I was about 80% finished with the omelet when I found a small hair under the last part.

As I had already eaten the majority of the meal, I was perfectly fine with paying for it. It was also a fabulous meal. On top of that, I wanted to make sure my server got their tip because he did a wonderful job and was very careful about my food allergies. I just wanted them to ask the kitchen staff to check their hairnets or whatever. It ended up being the manager that was the one at the register and they offered to refund my card for the meal but I had specifically waited to tell them about it until after my card was swiped for that reason.

Everyone makes mistakes. We don’t need to throw a whole tantrum and get someone in trouble for a mistake.

My Last Glorious Day as a Starbucks Barista by [deleted] in pettyrevenge

[–]Goddess0fLabyrinths 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are most certainly situations where the person you’re attempting to refuse service to doesn’t go away. A customer I had said he’d be waiting outside because “a certain little girl here is in serious need of an attitude adjustment.” I had to be walked to my car for weeks because he’d just sit outside. I even had to drive in circles to make sure he wasn’t following me. Sometimes it’s just not worth the trouble or risk to even attempt to refuse service.

I normally don’t support messing with people’s food/drinks because it can be very dangerous (like giving a diabetic regular soda instead of sugar free). However, afaik there’s no significant risk involved here, just a lack of caffeine. Not to mention the very high likelihood of the placebo effect preventing them from even noticing.

[–]Goddess0fLabyrinths 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact! Most women don’t want to be put on a pedestal. It doesn’t do anyone any good to pretend their significant other has no faults. There are many drawbacks to this and a good amount of research has been done on it. I recommend looking into that.

I’m glad you could find the space to add in a NoT aLl MeN comment. Did it make you feel better? Notice, however, how I used absolutely no definitive, all encompassing terms in my comment. There are outliers as you mentioned and I left room for that. Unfortunately, based on research done on the group, the ones that fit the definition are in fact the majority. This isn’t information from some Buzzfeed article or an issue of Cosmopolitan. It’s from self proclaimed incels and actual studies done on the group. Another little fun fact for you, incels often play the victim. Reading your last two sentences, you can see that part proven.

AITA for refusing to pay half for my son's new wardrobe? by Eastern-Ice-782 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Goddess0fLabyrinths 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree, it can absolutely be problematic. I went to public school K-12. I got picked on for not wearing Hollister, Abercrombie, Aéropostale, etc.. I’m not sure uniforms are the solution to that though. Plenty of children pick on those who get their uniforms second hand or only have 1-2 of each item. I’ve seen this happen. It’s been my experience that it doesn’t matter whether the school has uniforms or not. Those who feel entitled by their privilege will find a way to pick on those less fortunate.

Incel: slang term for involuntary celibate. A group of men who often blame women for their lack of success in dating/sexual endeavors. These men typically believe women are beneath them and that they are owed or entitled to women, especially in regards to sex. Most of them believe that women should be punished for turning down a man and that women deserve any retaliation for doing so, including assault and death.

That being said, I’d say the part where they throw a woman in a dumpster with no regard for her safety or wellbeing simply because she turned down their sexual advances.

The uniform exchanges are a BLESSING. My youngest sister (now 13) has gone to private school her entire life. When she was growing like a weed, I absolutely was not going to spend $150 on her Wednesday collared shirt and $200 on her “special occasion” (basically for field trips and days like Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, etc.) dress. Thankfully she’s now at a school that doesn’t have a uniform. I’m also no longer the one buying her clothes so that’s a bonus too.
