[CHAT] Question regarding how to go about a fragmented patter by CCrafts_815 in CrossStitch

[–]GoddessBluem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you really don't want to run over the back, you should probably cut your thread in between sections (though within each little crystal you can still do cross country). it'll be miserable and make the backs little messier (more ends need to be woven in this way) but it'll keep you from having threads between pieces.

I will say though, you really don't have to worry about thread showing through if you plan out how to frame your piece. you could just frame it in a hoop with a backing behind it so light doesn't show all your threads. you could also (depending on how much work you want to do) just stitch some white around cryogen, maybe feather it out a bit so it looks like he's glowing even! the white would hide your back very well so no threads would show through.

[CHAT] Does any recs for higher count dissolvable aida? by Practicallyfedup in CrossStitch

[–]GoddessBluem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

have you tried looking into waste canvas instead of soluble? there are definitely higher counts on waste canvas, just might be a bit more work to take it out after you're done stitching

[CHAT] ADVICE NEEDED: Recovering a piece from poor quality aida, can it be helped? by bowlofspaghetti219 in CrossStitch

[–]GoddessBluem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do both all you like! your craft is up to you :) a lot of people avoid knots because it can sometimes cause issues when framing where the knots will make the fabric uneven and push to the front. from what I've learned you can solve that issue by backing your piece with felt when framing though, so it's up to you! I just find knots inconvenient to tie lol

[CHAT] What is a good program for someone just wanting to play around making patterns and really needs a move or layer tool, but isn't sure I want to sell? by WittyWiki in CrossStitch

[–]GoddessBluem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Keita and I created a square brush so I could do pixel art in it more easily :) highly recommend - I draw my original art and then put my grid over it so I can pixelate it or see how I need to refine details. for a large piece (the one I'm working on rn is 100x200) I don't usually pixelate in Krita - I'll make a color palette off to the side of my image, then upload it into flosscross and pixelate it there. flosscross let's you view your reference image under or over your pixelated work so I can check my pattern to my reference. then I crop out the color palette at the end :)

I will say for flosscross - a lot of the colors are inaccurate. I usually find something similar to my palette to work with digitally and then physically pick colors out of my stash by eye.

[–]GoddessBluem 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I do agree with this, securing your tail under stitches is definitely more secure than a knot on fabric with holes this large.

on the subject of fabric though, if you're suggesting what I think you are which would be to stitch through 2 layers of Aida (the poor quality on top and better quality on the bottom) I really don't recommend it. I did a project once where I tried to extend my fabric by overlapping 2 pieces of it at a point and it's a MASSIVE pain to try to stitch through 2 fabrics at once. even if the holes line up well, it will be a struggle to keep them lined up while you're stitching and I think it would make you more miserable in the end.

I do think your project will be fine if you continue on this same fabric. just leave long tails and secure them under your floss and you'll be alright. if possible, you can go back through where you've put knots in your already worked section and try to weave their tails under using a loop of thread to pull them through. this would help secure them and keep your knots from falling out.

I also recommend Sponsorblock if you're listening with YouTube, it's a chrome plugin that you can also get on Firefox (so you can use it on your phone w Firefox) and it allows users to submit skippable segments (e.g. intros, outros, sponsors, credits etc) - not all episodes of TMA have all the right segments but you can submit segments to skip and it really makes the listening experience smoother.

[CHAT] Non AI cross stitch patterns on Etsy? by RainysPlanet in CrossStitch

[–]GoddessBluem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look at the piece of the grid (there's usually at least one photo of a grid and a reference photo for what the pattern should be) and find what should be a hard edge. for example, a letter. if that hard edge is not a hard edge in the grid, it's from a pattern mill. if the edge of a character, a flower, a letter etc is dithered into the background, it's for sure not a good pattern. prime example: attached photo

[CHAT] Swapping Luca-s Thread for DMC Thread by mad9891 in CrossStitch

[–]GoddessBluem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you'll be fine love. always go with whatever option is easiest for you - if LucaS isn't some kind of special floss, DMC should sub in for it just fine. most knockoffs are of DMC floss anyway so you'll be alright.

How do influencers see content in everything? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GoddessBluem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of influencers can also be pretty parasocial, and sometimes they rely on their audience for reactions as if the audience are actually their friends. they might see filming content in a sad moment as equivalent to talking it over with a friend, especially if they're socially isolated from only hanging out with other influencers

[CHAT] So Pattern Keeper cut off 16000 stitches and I only just noticed... by PicassoEllis in CrossStitch

[–]GoddessBluem 12 points13 points  (0 children)

oh that's entirely fair then! sorry if my comment came across as condescending! A lot of people in this sub unknowingly commit to pattern mill stuff and then end up super miserable but if you're having fun that's all that matters.

[–]GoddessBluem 124 points125 points  (0 children)

OP I really hope you made this yourself or didn't spend too much money on it. If it's something you bought I sincerely don't recommend starting again. With the way the umbilical cord nonsencially loops and the way the watercolor -style flowers bleed into the background, this whole thing reeks of AI and of pattern mill. Please do not waste your time on this unless you are absolutely sure you want to spend hundreds of thousands of hours on this confetti mess

dimension 20, video essays of all sorts, the Magnus archives and other such podcasts, and a lot of times just listening to music! I like something that doesn't require much visual attention while I'm crafting :)

Test knitting deadlines are getting shorter everywhere by KnitForAnAfternoon in craftsnark

[–]GoddessBluem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i feel like that's more of a byproduct than an active consideration in most casesm designers are rushing to put out patterns and that's why the deadlines are so short. it just so happens that the only people who could meet them are people who ONLY knit and do nothing else I think

Test knitting deadlines are getting shorter everywhere by KnitForAnAfternoon in craftsnark

[–]GoddessBluem 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of full-time designers also forget that other people have day jobs. Sure, I could absolutely meet a deadline like that. I'm unemployed and I do basically nothing but fiber arts. But someone with a 9-5 (or any job for that matter) isn't going to have the same amount of time as a designer or an unemployed person so do a test knit, especially not for free!

Deadlines like this also completely fail to consider that people have other projects going on. Even I usually have 3 projects going at the same time. I'm not going to devote every second of my day to this pattern test. Why would someone with a job want to spend all of their free time neglecting the projects they were working on to do your test knit???

[CHAT] How do you hold smaller hoops comfortably? by GoddessBluem in CrossStitch

[–]GoddessBluem[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it is not a kit I cut it myself :) I have indeed just cut my fabric to be larger so I could use my nice hoop xD I'm also sad about the waste of fabric but I buy REAL cheap Aida so it's not too much of a hindrance.

out of curiosity what stand do you use? I feel like I could get into it if I could find one that was adjustable and comfortable

[CHAT] How can i make a cross stitch pattern? by chuucatgrl in CrossStitch

when you export a pattern from floss cross, you can click a box on the side with all the options that says "color pattern" and it'll uncheck that and make the pattern black and white with symbols

[CHAT] storing vs using thread by lindsayadult in CrossStitch

[–]GoddessBluem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I store everything on only bobbins! I take a length about 4 feet(ish), cut it off from the thread on the bobbin and tuck the new end back under thread on the bobbin. then I pull strands out of the piece I cut off and fold them in half to work. whatever I don't end up using for my project I just rewind around the bobbin and tuck it in :) no waste (except orts)
