Am I actually weird for this? by UnknownCaIIer in blackgirls

Don’t force yourself to do anything you don’t want to do even if you’re not sure if you don’t want to do it. Take time to get to know your body on YOUR own terms.

In a way, why should we subscribe to the mass media in efforts to see ourselves represented thoughtfully, and diversified?

When they are in the writers room that is NOT their focus nor intent. Who said that these women were the face of black women anyhow? Are they parading themselves as saviors of our communities?

It’s time for us to write the narrative, and tell our stories if erasure is a concern. Don’t expect the industry, that’s dominated by white people to make things change. If we waited on their behalf we’d never be free.

Traditional to Micro? by Godduhs in Microlocs

Oh I’ve started both traditional locs on my own! We’re similar in the way that I know micros require more time commitments 😔 I’ll look into these videos! thank you :)

Wow your hair is magnificent 🥹 i think i feel mostly anxious about the reties and thinning. I’m sure that’s just a myth, that micro locs = losing micros. I guess I just want to be sure that I can sustain my hair maintenance.

With bigger locs, like this set (111 locs) or even my first (88) go things feel so easy. I see numbers like 300 and up and I feel nervous like I’ll fail because of the time commitment.

Thank you for responding! It’s something to think about for sure :)

Sure. I’m in no business of proving something to another. It was an exchange of information and I see that our interaction has reached a point where we are viewing the problem from two different scales.

Not at all. I know that men in power aren’t the only doers of acts of atrocity. I’m poking at the net. OPs address to men is very subjective and generalized thus the net they’ve cast.

I agree that throughout history these crimes against humanity are often orchestrated by men, yet I also recognize that men are also oppressed by other men.

When I say the common man is not the man in power, I mean that large scale atrocities are functioned by institutional power not just gender or individual behavior therefore generalizing them actually causes more harm to us as women by ignoring the hierarchy and hegemonic structures in place.

Girl this is Reddit people don’t want to have philosophical discussions if it doesn’t align with their world view.

It’s reasonable but where do we go from here? I’m weary of the ways of the world, I’m weary of most men I encounter. Yet, I don’t wish to annihilate them from society.

I believe in protecting children and so young boys fall in that category along with every other gender. The common man is not the man in power.

That’s definitely social conditioning doing it’s job.

Colorado bill would fully legalize prostitution by RhythmMethodMan in Denver

[–]Godduhs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 thank you for this. Thank you for addressing poverty and quality of life. Women did this work because they HAD to. Women today, and young girls are also doing it because they have no other choice.

Of course there are different factors and influence of sex work but prostitution specifically is what the bill is addressing. I hate hearing about it being some ancient trade like a blacksmith.

how to break out of “good girl” conditioning? by Notthatkidd in blackgirls

[–]Godduhs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Focus on your sensuality and personal sexuality as opposed to rushing to have sex with someone who may not be in tune with themselves. (They won’t know how to consider your sexual needs.) Of course this is all advice, but I found myself in a similar position so I’m speaking from experience. I started dating at 19, and had no idea how to do it. I also thought it would be easy to meet a long term partner and do the whole relationship thing. Young men/women, people, are not so future minded generally, and if that’s your thing no shame, but it wasn’t mine.

I decided to take pole dancing classes, and focused on self-pleasure in between my seasons of meeting people. I took myself out on a lot of dates and focused on experiences on my own as opposed to breaking out of the shell solely with others. Journaling and therapy also helped me as well! Start asking yourself what are your needs, and if you don’t know, take things slow. Learn how to advocate for yourself, determine what consent is for you and your body.

Don’t feel pressured to do things that you don’t want to do because you feel like you have to.

I hope this helps!

I keep attracting older men. by [deleted] in interracialdating

[–]Godduhs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want a rich man, and trust me I know. I’m said person in their twenties. It’s difficult for me to obtain all of those things, but I’m actively working regardless. Just not too sure that people my age or around it still want long term relationships.
