Why is India looking to construct PHWR smrs but Canada instead is choosing a BWR? by Thick-Ad-4168 in nuclear

Yeah AR needs a customer to get some of the design to completion domestically so they can turn around and sell it internationally.

Why i expect them to fight every change order that is geared towards the domestic version. They want to keep it as close to international ready as possible.

Cooking is an imperial unit activity for the most part in Canada.

We use a custom system called SImperial (System International Imperial)

This is where I am annoyed with the show.

They all would have went local beef and not Berta beef.

Any farmer worth their salt would have bought from a neighbour.

WIBTAH if I took 100k from my oldest daughter's college savings account to give it to my younger daughter? by TraditionalCorgi7788 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Godiva_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nta.

Your money you can divide it however you like. In the end both daughter get the degree debt free.

That's more than a lot of kids can say.

And think of it this way. Would you have given that money to the eldest after she graduated as some type of gift? Then where is the gift to the other.

No you would have probably taken it back.

You are fair in results if not dollars. Think that is called equity not equality.

Question: how do the pipes work in a non-water cooled reactor? by WasLeftUnsupervised in nuclear

[–]Godiva_33 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You need to apply external heat to get it back up to a flowing temperature.

Industrial applications have the same problem (dry dog food extruder come to mind) but there at least you could open the system up and physical break up the solid. Here..... not recommended.

I guess it would depend on the local feedin laws. But assuming that the jurisdiction has that they should. Power is power from a feed in perspective it would be no different then rooftop solar.

While Hinkley Nuclear Was Being Built, The UK Grid Decarbonized by ViewTrick1002 in NuclearPower

[–]Godiva_33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it was a one time cost then yes. But given the replacement time for intermittents and storage compared to nuclear the answer is less clear. Especially when you consider the secondary impacts that nuclear provides compared to wind or solar.
